The Dewa is a magnificent hotel putting together great architectural design and Thai's well known quality of service. The Villas are great and offer privacy and more than the required comfort!
The beach side being common with a neighboring hotel which beach-access was messy (trash lying around). Maybe arrangements could be made so that the whole beach is cleaned.
The Dewa is a magnificent hotel putting together great architectural design and Thai's well known quality of service. Next time I go to Koh Chang, I will definitely book The Dewa!

- Nice large pool (but ZERO privacy)
- Boutique design
- Nice dining on the beach
- Rooms are not well-maintained. Many many problems with my room such as Wet floor, leak shower, Bug problem (1.5 inch Cockroach in my bathroom), lighting mal-function, etc.
- Pool closed at 19.00. (great.. just when it's dark enough to get some privacy)
- 90% of the rooms have NO seaview. In fact, I think only 2-3 rooms get to see the ocean.
I visited Kok Chang unplan. I picked The Dewa because its boutique design. Turn out I should have choosen the others (such as Amari, Dusit, etc). They are less boutique but seem to provide more comfort. The resort just doesn't care to give you any By-the-sea feeling, unless you stay in its most pool villa (not the low-price ones). Its low-price pool villas have NO view at all!!.
If you like to enjoy the pool, stay at Amari.

-Some room details
My wife and I stayed 4 nights at the Dewa. It was our 3rd visit to koh Chang and we have been to most all the popular islands of Thailand over the years.
We paid the off season rate for this hotel as well as a discount due to the low tourist numbers
in the present economy. Our room was clean and aesthetically pleasing. The bed was comfortable. The deck was large and welcoming. The beach is excellent as well. We found the food to be so-so, nothing special. The rooms however are not well thought out with regard to electrical outlets, coffee service (it's under the bar on the floor in the back of a cabinet, flooring. There are some great places to stub your toes in the dark (slight rises in the floor tiles from bathroom to bedroom). I'm a fan of concrete utilized in architecturally interesting ways, so the overall design of the Dewa caught my attention. However, with the roof line, it looks a bit like a ski lodge with an tropical flare. They had a very narrow piece of property to deal with and I think they did a reasonable job. The main dining room is a climb up about 20 steps, so if you have problems walking, you'll need help. The suites look a bit like large, round African huts. I'm not sure what the architectural idea was with these. I do know, I did not care for them, nor would I have been happy paying the price they wanted for these. The staff was excellent and very friendly. It also seemed to be a good place for children. All in all we were happy. However at high season prices, this would not be our choice.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Rent a motorbike and tour the island. It's safe as nearly everyone is on them. Be very careful however on the hills after a rain. See Bang Bao before it is totally ruined. In just one year, they are already trying to charge you to park your motorbike just to walk out onto the pier.
