The Dewa is a magnificent hotel putting together great architectural design and Thai's well known quality of service. The Villas are great and offer privacy and more than the required comfort!
The beach side being common with a neighboring hotel which beach-access was messy (trash lying around). Maybe arrangements could be made so that the whole beach is cleaned.
The Dewa is a magnificent hotel putting together great architectural design and Thai's well known quality of service. Next time I go to Koh Chang, I will definitely book The Dewa!

- Nice large pool (but ZERO privacy)
- Boutique design
- Nice dining on the beach
- Rooms are not well-maintained. Many many problems with my room such as Wet floor, leak shower, Bug problem (1.5 inch Cockroach in my bathroom), lighting mal-function, etc.
- Pool closed at 19.00. (great.. just when it's dark enough to get some privacy)
- 90% of the rooms have NO seaview. In fact, I think only 2-3 rooms get to see the ocean.
I visited Kok Chang unplan. I picked The Dewa because its boutique design. Turn out I should have choosen the others (such as Amari, Dusit, etc). They are less boutique but seem to provide more comfort. The resort just doesn't care to give you any By-the-sea feeling, unless you stay in its most pool villa (not the low-price ones). Its low-price pool villas have NO view at all!!.
If you like to enjoy the pool, stay at Amari.

-Some room details
My wife and I stayed 4 nights at the Dewa. It was our 3rd visit to koh Chang and we have been to most all the popular islands of Thailand over the years.
We paid the off season rate for this hotel as well as a discount due to the low tourist numbers
in the present economy. Our room was clean and aesthetically pleasing. The bed was comfortable. The deck was large and welcoming. The beach is excellent as well. We found the food to be so-so, nothing special. The rooms however are not well thought out with regard to electrical outlets, coffee service (it's under the bar on the floor in the back of a cabinet, flooring. There are some great places to stub your toes in the dark (slight rises in the floor tiles from bathroom to bedroom). I'm a fan of concrete utilized in architecturally interesting ways, so the overall design of the Dewa caught my attention. However, with the roof line, it looks a bit like a ski lodge with an tropical flare. They had a very narrow piece of property to deal with and I think they did a reasonable job. The main dining room is a climb up about 20 steps, so if you have problems walking, you'll need help. The suites look a bit like large, round African huts. I'm not sure what the architectural idea was with these. I do know, I did not care for them, nor would I have been happy paying the price they wanted for these. The staff was excellent and very friendly. It also seemed to be a good place for children. All in all we were happy. However at high season prices, this would not be our choice.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Rent a motorbike and tour the island. It's safe as nearly everyone is on them. Be very careful however on the hills after a rain. See Bang Bao before it is totally ruined. In just one year, they are already trying to charge you to park your motorbike just to walk out onto the pier.

- Sits on a very nice beach
- Quiet
- Good for couples
- Nice pool
- Staff very nice, but not very well trained
- Pool should be closer to the beach
- Didn't really like the breakfast setup
The hotel is on a nice quiet beach. The rooms are very nice, although I stayed in the villa and didn't really like the set up of the room. All the villas should have an ocean view. Granted it was the offseason, but they should put the pool, bar and restaurant closer to the beach. The pool sits in the middle of the resort. The hotel loses a lot of money because it's not really convenient to order anything from the hotel - from the beach or the pool etc... I also think the hotel needs a good concierge that can recommend good restaurants, places to see etc...Overall though it is a very nice hotel to go for couples.
Restaurant Tip : Friend Seafood down the road was an excellent restaurant for seafood.

Gorgeous design, generous staff, giant pool, amazing beach and wonderful food (don't miss the nightly bbq on the beach).
Absolutely nothing. I can't think of a single reason to not choose The Dewa! (and, it should be noted that I saw several of the room types... all are great).
I adored our stay at The Dewa. Koh Chang is the type of vacation destination that is dictated by the resort you choose to stay at. In other words, your choice of lodging will make or break your stay. If you're looking for complete relaxation and pampering, without feeling suffocated by the service, The Dewa is the place for you. Gorgeous design, generous staff, giant pool, amazing beach and wonderful food (don't miss the nightly bbq on the beach). The layout of the resort allows you to feel as if you are on a private vacation, even during a busy time. Guests at The Dewa are generally thoughtful of those around them and help to contribute to a tranquil, serene, yet fun environment. I can't wait to return and hope for many future vacations at The Dewa!
Restaurant Tip : The island has lots of little tiny restaurants and souvenir shops scattered along the main road, but it should be noted that Koh Chang vacations really are resort-type vacations. In other words, choose a great place to stay! For a really wonderful restaurant experience, get a table on the beach at The Dewa for their bbq dinners (you choose the seafood, they bbq it for you!).

small, clean hotel, very nice beach, good breakfast buffet, friendly stuff
prices for massage in the hotel spa are to expensive compared to beach prices
Very nice, clean, small boutique hotel with a relaxed atmosphere. I stayed in a room but had an upgrade the first night because my room was not ready yet. Villa is nice too, but not that much different from rooms - except for a bigger tv and two seating opportunities. Many excursions arranged by the hotel like diving and snorkelling or elephant trekking. I enjoyed my stay a lot and would go there again.
Hotel Feature Tip : Try the beach massages - they are great!

- Quiet & Private atmosphere
- Very Good Service than expected
NONE (as I can think of now, really)
The Dewa Hotel (Resort) is one of our family's favorite place to relax and spend valuable time together. With its very good services, well designed and decorated rooms and beautiful private beach attached to the hotel, we really had a good time there. Let us say thank you to The Dewa's stuffs who always offered helping hands to us while we need, for example, my children were interested in snorkeling, one of the stuff helped us to get such a good-value-for-money deal. We'll be back to the Dewa again for sure :-)

Brand new with contemporary styled bed/bathrooms, wonderful pool and beach facilities.
Reluctance to organise transport other than their own. More expensive hotel vehicles.
This was a wonderful hotel, great architecture with exposed concrete both externally and internally. The bathroom facilities comprised of big drench showers with baths that had vision panels into the bedroom. Very large pool and beautiful big loungers on the beach. The beach BBQ and live music was very good, however, if you get a taxi to White Sands Beach you can do the same meal for a fraction of the price.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Well worth walking to the end of the street to pick up a local taxi rather than a hotel provided minibus - a fraction of the price and easy to get.

Beautiful design, good service, friendly and attentive personnel, nice features like the 2 pools with different styles, traditional Thai houses
rooms could show more local flavour instead of standard international room design, no bidet or hygienic shower at the toilet installed (common feature in even basic hotels in Thailand)
breakfast is standard international fare,
Restaurant Tip : Staff directed me to a nearby Thai restaurant called Ruen Mallika, food was excellent at a fair price, close by seafood restaurant offers the supermarket atmosphere, dining excellent but for Thailand too pricey

Distinctively different.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Just relax on the white sandy beach with crystal clear warm water. Go for a trek in the untouched tropical jungle, go diving or snorkeling, and enjoy the Dewa BBQ on the beach.
