Luxury suites literally right on the beach

The beach at Koh Lanta may not be quite as picturesque as Phi Phi or Phuket, but it's wonderfully secluded change of pace, perfect for couples or people looking to relax. La Paloma's large, luxurious rooms open up literally right on a beach that's perfect for dipping or taking in the sunset. The hotel is relatively new and it does have some growing pains (such as the electrical fuses getting blown a few times our first 2 nights). But it's owned by a lovely Swiss expat and his Thai wife, who went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable without any of the sketchiness that is all too common in Thailand. Overall, a great place for couples.

Get the suites with a kitchen, then stock up with snacks and drinks at the 7-Eleven down the street.
