Okay but not great
The best thing was that it was about a 75m walk to the beach and a beach restaurant. The breakfast provided was adequate and nicely served.

I have no serious issues with Papillon Bungalows but I was disappointed at the quality of the room, the bed was incredibly hard and although the air con blasted straight onto the bed there was an inadequate very small sheet provided and no other bed cover whatsoever. There was no beach towel provided even though the hotel is advertised as 75m from the beach. The pool was fine for little kids but not really for adults, as it is small, shallow and very warm. You will need a heap of mosquito repellent as they are ever present but not just at Papillon on Koh Lanta in general. The breakfast provided was very nice and there is real coffee every morning. I didn't realise that in the low season the dining room and bar would shut from 4 pm so one did not meet other travellers or chat around the seating area in the evenings. It was easy to arrange a motorbike hire near to the hotel and it was a very easy walk to the beach and the lovely Lyms Rice Bowl for meals on the beach. I think Papillon is fine if you are happy with very basic accommodation, clean rooms, adequate bathroom and a short walk to the beach.

Very budget

This is a very budget option, Koh Lanta seems to have cheap places and very expensive places to stay and not a lot of mid range options. I found it to be a very basic place, the rooms were okay as was the bathroom. The mattress was hard, the air conditioning blew directly on the bed and only a small sheet to cover yourself. Too hot with the air con off and too cold with it on. The breakfast was adequate and there was fresh coffee available every day. Be aware that the dining room/ bar is closed from 4 pm in low season so no socialising or having a meal in the evening at the hotel.
