Phra Nang Lanta Hotel, Koh Lanta (Krabi)

Kan Tiang beach is lovely! Phra Nang Lanta is one of few resorts on the beach. The rooms are very spacious. However the decoration of only two chairs on a huge balcony can leave one wondering why. You could easily fit a hammock and a small table or some sunbeds there, but no. Just a lot of space and two wooden chairs. Other balconys however were fully furnished. Staff do not speak good english so do not expect too much help there. Each time you ask a question you get three or four people trying to answer it. Often no one can. Also they are quite unorganized. One time cleaning staff left dirty towels on our floor and every other day at breakfast I was asked three times from three different people if I wanted to order eggs. Other mornings I was left without. Staff is generally sweet however. Beware that living on the first floor gives you little privacy. Try second floor and rooms like Passion or Starry Night and you'll also end up on the side of the hotel which isn't right next to Why Not Bar. Hotel has its own roof-top bar yet it was closed during our stay. Lunch has to be pre-ordered at the hotel. I recommend going to Drunken Sailor up the street for lunch and coffee. For evenings there are a few relaxed bars and some restaurants (can recommend Same same but diffrent) on the beach.

We enjoyed our stay here and in fact extended an extra night and had to change rooms so we stayed in two different rooms. Every room is differently furnished with a theme, all quite nice. The room on ground level have their outdoor space right next to each other with no privacy at all. The rooms on 2nd floor have a private balcony which we preferred unless you have children and need to be on the ground. The hot water was not working ther first night and tho they asked when we wanted it fixed (it was late) when we said NOW they were there in a flash and did a good job. BUT beware the NOISY bar on the left facing the beach at the next hotel called Katiang Bay. Goes LATE and LOUD! Our room on the right was much quieter so I'd request that. They offer an expensive multi-course dinner by advance reservation. Forget it! Go to the very good restaurant in the hotel nest door directly on the right as you face the beach. The Katiang Bay on the left also has a so-so restaurant. The beach is womderful, a smallish cove, very beautiful. This hotel is way out on the island so it's a 1/2 hr pricey taxi to get to and from the ferry. But we like being away from the town. If you want a lot action its not for you unless you like the noisy bar next foor of course. We rented a motobike right from the hotel at a reasonable rate to get around. You are a short walk from a few stores if you need a 7/11 or internet cafe. We'd stay again.
