This is a gorgeous resort on a lovely beach. It is away from all tourist strip but still has enough alternative restaurants/bars to try within walking distance. The gardens around the resort are amazing. The room was nice but we did not have a view. This is a very large resort but all is within easy walking distance. The spa is an amazing experience. Raised walkways take you to treatment cabannas set in a stunning gardens. The relaxing area after your treatment is set near a beautiful koy pond and waterfalls. The restaurants are expensive and not that interesting. But we had great meals in several restaurants down the beach which were much more reasonably priced and had more interesting atmospheres.
Restaurants were too formal and the food very expensive. A more casual lower priced alternative would be a good addition.

Extremely friendly and helpful staff.
Very well designed and maintained resort. Comfortable rooms.
Excellent cuisine.
Alcoholic beverages and Spa were overpriced.
This is a resort that I would recommend (actually did).
Restaurant Tip : The on site restaurants have excellent quality and fairly priced food, but get your alcoholic beverages outside the resort...

Spotless, grounds and hotel, lovely staff, very helpfull, good food, beautifull beach and pools.
We stayed in this resort at the end of November 2008, everything was 5 star from beggining to end, very relaxing, would love to stay in a pool villa but a little out of our price range, though the rooms are high quality, great bath, clean and well maintained. the library was very useful and the grounds were beautiful.
Restaurant Tip : Same Same but different, just next door on the beach, lovely food.

Lovely warm welcoming with drink, flowers and worm towels.
Great hotel facilities with the different pool areas and the beach.
Clean and nice looking surrounding.
Expensive food in the restaurant, compared to what you received and regular Thai prices.
I enjoyed my short stay (1 night) at the Pimalai.
I attended a wedding ceremoni at the beach, arranged by the hotel, and it was all very pretty and full of orchides. The wedding dinner at the top restaurant in the sunset is a great memory. As mentioned above, I really enjoyed the warm welcoming ceremony and the hotel facilities.
It´s a paradise for love couples, but not much to do if you are on your own or if raining. Also way to expensive food compared to what you get and regular Thai prices. Thanks for a short, but great stay.
Restaurant Tip : Need to visit the nearby restaurant "Same Same" on the beach, where you can get some local feeling and coconut drink.

Hotel amazing! Extremely good one in Thailand, for the purpose required - the king of Thailand vacation there sometimes. Good hotel, excellent service, rooms amazing! The room with sea view - is highly recommended. I also like the excellent breakfast at the hotel restaurants, room service excellent. Clean smell fresh all the time just a pleasure.
In conclusion, the perfect hotel to end a trip with in Thailand, just a dream. Looking out from the room's windew or the roof, I can sometimes see families of monkeys:)
In addition the hotel offers free maritime attractions such as: Canoe.
Restaurant Tip :
If craving local food, there is a restaurant strip at the beach below, serves excellent food at cheap prices.
To get there: If you are on the beach facing the sea, turned left and walk along the coastal strip for about 200 meters. The restaurant is behind a tree.

The location is very, very nice and also the service was great. I really enjoy the moment over there. Great the outdoor sports, etc.
One of the restaurant up on the top of the resort wasn't good.
Most of all I made a good decision and for sure I will visit in Pimalai again by booking through Agoda website. It was very convenient and save a bit of money. You couldn't believe that place is in Thailand. Since I got back I spoke to all my family and friend how good and so much fun I had in this trip.

Amazing views and privacy, wonderful buffet breakfasts and one of the worlds most beautiful beaches.
Rooms not to 5 star standards as pillows and sheets are of very poor quality.Service not up to 5 star standards as the staff seem poorly trained and seem to have a poor understanding of English.
Great place for a honeymoon, but do not expect great service as this hotel lacks properly trained staff. English language skills seem to be lacking at this hotel. Stayed at a few other hotels on koh Lanta and the rooms and service not to mention the food quality was far better at the layana resort.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : It was very enjoyable to wake up one morning and see monkeys in the trees of the resort.

The setting, the beautiful beach and beachside dining, the room itself, the restaurant on the cliff side with 360 degree views, the personalized service, the balcony and the privacy
Location - it was a 2 hour drive from the airport
This was our honeymoon hotel and it couldn't have been more perfect. The long drive to get there (cost us 2500 baht) was in the end totally worth it. Beautiful individual cottages set along sloping hillsides and ending up at the beach...spectacular. Our cottage was about 3 mins walk from the beach. We really enjoyed the room and private balcony. The restaurants were absolutely amazing, especially the beachside restaurant and the clifftop one. Breakfast was superb every morning. And the two pools were amazing with natural water from the sea being pumped in. This is the perfect resort for honeymooners. Very private and peaceful. Don't choose the Pimalai if you're looking for adventure, sports or things to do - this is really a sanctuary for people who enjoy each other's company and just want to relax.
Hotel Feature Tip : If you enjoy cooking, you MUST do the private cooking classes. The Asst Executive Chef took us to the clifftop restaurant's open kitchen for our lesson and we learned to make 5 Thai delicacies from scratch while looking out onto the ocean! And then we ate our meal, and were given certificates, recipes and pimalai chef aprons. The staff are so lovely that the same night, the chef came to us at the beachside restaurant where we were having dinner to give us his own private family recipe for making green curry paste from scratch and gave us some insight into local life.
There's also a great reggae bar called 'Why Not Bar' down the beach from the Pimalai, about 5 mins walk on the right. Great food, evenings get busy, very hippie-esque if you're into that.

Same Same But Different is a jewel of a restaurant right next to the resort on the beach, shrimp in tamarind and spicy curry mackeral were great, vibe is great, prices are cheap! A good break on your wallet. On the other side of the bay is Shroom Bar where you can drink until sunrise in a tree! Made very good friend with the owner and DJ, young, fun, party people.

Great resort although we would prefer more privacy, we were too aware of others around us in the way the accommodation is set up etc, too many young children!! They should have had at least one children free restaurant or pool area.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The day snorkelling trip from the resort was worth doing but not for those that get seasickness, the boat is quite old and was very rocky even on a fairly calm day!
