This place is beautiful, and is probably the best value 'high end' option in West Railay..

expensive compared to other places we stayed in Thailand.

This place is beautiful, and is probably the best value 'high end' option in West Railay.. Very well decked out, great pool, great value for money compared to some other options on this beach.. however, it is still SO expensive compared to other places we stayed in Thailand. stayed in a Privacy Villa which was one of the nicest Villas/suites that I've stayed in. The food is delicious!! The pizzas are awesome and the BBQ skewers are great!! The swimming pools are really nice and our jacuzzi was great!! There are a couple of other resort on railay west so there are plenty of places to eat and drink. The restaurant has free wireless if you bring you laptop. I had my iPhone so that worked well. You can rent DVDs for free from the desk

very nice layed out villas, good incentives with many complimentaries, food is very excellent

long ways, room service took one day 2.5 hours to delvier second time 1.5 hours then gave up ordering. internet took 3 hours to fix.

very nice resort with perfectly equiped villas. very relaxing atmosphere. food in the seven seas restaurant is remarkbly exfcellent for thai standards as the kitchen is run by a french chef. only weakness seem to be the rather high prices and the long delivery hours of any services delivered to the room. nice location in still unspoilt nature!

Wonderful location, good facilities and fantastic service.

None noted.

The Pimalai is an excellent hotel. It is situated on a long white sand beach towards the south of Koh Lanta. The resort is spread over both sides of the road with the more expensive pool villas set out on the steep hillside across the road with breathtaking views over the bay. Rooms on the beach side of the hotel are in low rise houses (2 rooms per house - one on the ground floor and one on the upper floor). All rooms have large balconies although few rooms have sea views (as with many Thai resorts the Pimalai is very much "at one with nature" so trees are not cut down to make way for sea views). The resort has two infinity pools (one in each half of the resort) which are both open to all guests. The pool in the top half of the resort offers breathtaking views of the bay. I can't comment on food at the Pimalai as there are a couple of beach bars nearby which offer fantastic food and great atmosphere at a fraction of the price ("Same Same But Different" and "Why Not Bar" spring to mind). Facilities in the hotel are second to none with tennis courts, a basketball court, ping pong table and even a croquet lawn. DVDs and books can be borrowed at no charge from the library. All in all I strongly recommend this hotel.

Restaurant Tip : Try "Same Same But Different" bar and restaurant for dinner just along the beach.

Had a great time at the Pimalai and was lucky enough to stay in the Pavilion suite right on the beach! The staff at the hotel were extremely welcoming. If booking a Deluxe Room please note that you may have a forest view. Beach was nice and quiet and great for swimming in.

Peace and quiet, a beautiful beach, gorgeous swimming pools and very helpful staff

Slightly dated bedroom and bathroom (particularly bathroom) and if you do want to move around the Island transport isn't great value

First and foremost Pimalai is a fantastic destination to escape hectic city life. The resort is well manicured and very quiet. Set on a beautiful beach with excellent swimming (during high season at any rate) it's the perfect place to do nothing. For those not content with doing nothing there are some watersports available and, of course, the Island of Ko Lanta to explore. A real treat is the overflow pool in the upper part of the resort (the walk up seems to put people off so it is nice and quiet) which has amazing views. Less impressive are the rooms and bathrooms (at least the entry level rooms) though these are perfectly comfortable, very clean and relatively well equipped. They just seem a touch out of date. Hotel transport around the Island isn't great value but the alternatives are limited. In conclusion I very much enjoyed my stay at this hotel and would certainly make a return trip.

Restaurant Tip : Great value food on the beach at "Same Same but Different" restaurant (just left out of the hotel and a few yards down the beach).

location is fantastic, lovely beach, quiet and very very peaceful. Staff are fantastic.

over priced, resort showing too many signs of age

This is not a 5 star hotel. I booked into a superior room, and was somewhat disappointed with the lack of view, so upgraded (at a cost of £300 per night) to a beach front villa. The stained walls, cigarette burns on the bath and cracked toilet seat (from age) really didn't go down well. I was happy to pay through the nose for a luxury holiday, but this just failed to meet expectations.

beautiful beach

this hotel is older and it shows. it is very expensive for what you get

this hotel is pretty old and it is showing. also they have two separate parts to the hotel . . . a newer and more expensive part higher on the hills which may be nicer i dont know and the part below which is closer to the beach but older and more basic. rooms are decent but smell a little musty. they are a basic 3-4 star rooms in an amazing 5 star resort. beach is beautiful. food is good. too expensive for the money.

Located in an almost private wonderful beach, amazingly kind and helpful staff, nice food, all the amenities you might need to make your holidays perfect.

As being in a quite hidden and difficult to get place is not easy to move from the hotel to other areas of the island. Not specially cheap.

We stayed at Pimalai Resort and Spa for three nights and I must say was an amazing experience. The hotel is extremely beautiful, facing an amazing beach in the middle of the forest surrounded by nature. The rooms-we stayed at a deluxe room- are big and nice furnished with typical Thai style, all with bathtub and terrace. You have several restaurants to choose and in all of them, the food was really good. The two infinity pools are very beautiful, and also the spa is really worth it to be visited for a full treatment or just a massage. The staff was extremely kind and helpful all the time, they are very well organized and professional in any issue of your stay-transfers, special requests..- I would say is definitely worth it to pay every single bath to spend some days close to paradise at Pimalai. You have a wide range of prices from the deluxe rooms to the wonderful private pool villas, which are stunning but further from the beach, though they have best views to the sea.

Fantastic location on an unspoilt beach, beautiful building in keeping with the environment, wonderful facilities, especially the two infinity swimming pools and gym, great staff.

Expensive to eat and drink compared to local alternatives, prices at UK levels, which seems very unnecessary.

The Pimalai lived up to all the things we had read about it and we were not at all disappointed with the great reviews we had read before. Our deluxe room was very well equipped and spacious enough for our 6-day stay. The location is surely on the best beach in Koh lanta, and even though it is at the southern end of the island, it is only 30 mins or less to the main town/ferry. Breakfast was great, staff were wonderful and the highlight for us was the fantastic 50m infinity swimming pool and gym, air conditioned and very well equipped. Overall, we couldn't have wanted more, and I would highly recommend the Pimalai to anyone wanting a luxurious getaway.

Restaurant Tip : There is a choice of 2 local restaurants on the beach, and some coffee bars in the small local village, so you are not stuck with the high prices in the hotel.

Great rooms. Stunning sunsets. Both infinity pools. Great food. Friendly staff.

Transfer is quite long but worth it.

We had a wonderful stay at The Pimilai and would recommend it to anyone. The resort is fab, not too big but lots of areas to sunbath, eat and drink. Would definitely return just to watch the amazing sunsets every night with cocktails....stunning!

Shopping Tip : Worth heading out the resort to find the local '7 Eleven' store as is much cheaper than the resort shop.

This is a gorgeous resort on a lovely beach. It is away from all tourist strip but still has enough alternative restaurants/bars to try within walking distance. The gardens around the resort are amazing. The room was nice but we did not have a view. This is a very large resort but all is within easy walking distance. The spa is an amazing experience. Raised walkways take you to treatment cabannas set in a stunning gardens. The relaxing area after your treatment is set near a beautiful koy pond and waterfalls. The restaurants are expensive and not that interesting. But we had great meals in several restaurants down the beach which were much more reasonably priced and had more interesting atmospheres.

Restaurants were too formal and the food very expensive. A more casual lower priced alternative would be a good addition.

Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Very well designed and maintained resort. Comfortable rooms. Excellent cuisine.

Alcoholic beverages and Spa were overpriced.

This is a resort that I would recommend (actually did).

Restaurant Tip : The on site restaurants have excellent quality and fairly priced food, but get your alcoholic beverages outside the resort...

Spotless, grounds and hotel, lovely staff, very helpfull, good food, beautifull beach and pools.

All good

We stayed in this resort at the end of November 2008, everything was 5 star from beggining to end, very relaxing, would love to stay in a pool villa but a little out of our price range, though the rooms are high quality, great bath, clean and well maintained. the library was very useful and the grounds were beautiful.

Restaurant Tip : Same Same but different, just next door on the beach, lovely food.

Lovely warm welcoming with drink, flowers and worm towels. Great hotel facilities with the different pool areas and the beach. Clean and nice looking surrounding.

Expensive food in the restaurant, compared to what you received and regular Thai prices.

I enjoyed my short stay (1 night) at the Pimalai. I attended a wedding ceremoni at the beach, arranged by the hotel, and it was all very pretty and full of orchides. The wedding dinner at the top restaurant in the sunset is a great memory. As mentioned above, I really enjoyed the warm welcoming ceremony and the hotel facilities. It´s a paradise for love couples, but not much to do if you are on your own or if raining. Also way to expensive food compared to what you get and regular Thai prices. Thanks for a short, but great stay.

Restaurant Tip : Need to visit the nearby restaurant "Same Same" on the beach, where you can get some local feeling and coconut drink.
