Backpacker flophouse—could not stay here!

We booked one night in Sonya's dormitory as the beds were so cheap we figured we could do one night here while looking for a nicer place to stay while on Koh Lanta. Although the guesthouse looks nice from the road, we knew very quickly that we could not stay here as soon as we saw the dorm we would be staying in: it was essentially a large bungalow that had mattresses all over the place, and our bed was to be in the loft. There was no A/C in the room and it was just positively stifling; I was sure one of us would get heat stroke in the night if we stayed there! It is clearly a place meant only for those on the smallest of budget's and who don't mind a "flophouse" atmosphere.
The staff were very friendly and the lunch we had in the restaurant was fine, but this is no place to spend a vacation. We rented a motorbike from a shop down the street and quickly found another place where we could have a bungalow all to ourselves and didn't even bother staying at Sonya's that night. This place may be cheap, but you truly do get what you pay for!

i've stayed at the guesthouse for three days and i absolutely loved it here, granted the accommodation is quite basic (matras on the floor, no towel) but the atmosphere at the guesthouse was so welcoming. the staff spoke very good english and helped me out whenever they needed to. in addition, the food was amazing! i definitely recommend this place!
