Ideally situated on the beach front. Just fall out of bed and your on your sun lounger!
Rooms had everything in you needed but did look a bit tired and dated.
I loved my stay here. Location was perfect as it was right on the beach and only 10mins from the harbour (ferry) and Saladan Village (local town).
Staff were more than friendly and always happy to help with any queries.
There were several families with children so bare this in mind if you want to escape and have an adult only holiday. Don't let this put you off staying - it was just an observation, resort seem to cater very well for the kiddies.
Good selection for breakfast.
Resort offers massages - would highly recommend you treat yourself to one - takes about an hour.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Take the time to go on at least one trip to see the island as its lovely. I went on an elephant safari + waterfall trip and it was really worth the money.

right on the beach, clean rooms, good service.
we stayed at Southern Lanta for five days in a beachfront room. the view was incredible, especially the sunsets!! the manager of the hotel was very helpful and informative with any questions we had. We walked the beach practically each day in this area and would say without question that southern Lanta stands out amongst the others.

Rooms need serious and urgent refurbishment!
On arrival the hotel is hard to spot from the main road so need to keep eyes out. I'd booked a 'superior' beach view room but I have to say there was absolutely nothing superior about the room. The room smelt damp, the wallpaper was stained (why have wallpaper in tropical country??!), the decor very outdated, the floor tiles dirty and chipped, the lighting was appalling being dim and dingy with bright yellow plastic things above the bed which shed no light at all, the sheets were worn and old, the bathroom was dreadful in bright turquoise tiles from the 1970s with some kind of metal door, the fridge was dirty, the TV channels only had BBC world and no cable movie channels which most hotels offer (although that's not what you go to Ko Lanta for but if you're on your own and it's raining it's useful...) - all in all a miserable room although adequate in size, and the balcony was nice.
The pool was ok, perhaps a bit small for the size of the hotel and definitely not enough sun beds. There were I think 8 around the pool which is far from adequate.
I wouldn't stay here again if you paid me. I don't know what the other category of rooms where like but I would not recommend this hotel with the superior beach view rooms. I was only there for 3 nights, but I had a 2 week booked I'd be exceedingly disappointed with the choice. It's a shame as the location is fine on the beach, but if they only put a little money into doing up the rooms they could vastly improve it - doesn't need to be fancy, just clean!

Koh Lanta is a lot quieter than the other islands in Thailand so a great place to stay if you just want to kick back and relax. Long white beach with cooling ocean breeze. Great place to take snorkelling trips.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The guy who runs the sightseeing/tour shop right on the beach on the right hand side of the hotel complex (when you are facing the beach) was really lovely and helpful (and did us a really good deal!). We took an all day snorkelling speedboat trip to Koh Rok and it was a lovely day which included lunch, drinking water, snorkelling gear, pick up from hotel, etc. Would definitely recommend going to Koh Rok for a day trip, it is a serene, beautiful untouched island!! He also organised our ferry from Koh Lanta to Phuket for us.
