Haad Son Resort, Koh Phangan (Suratthani)

I was unhappy with this hotel and its service all the way around. Aside from the young man who helped us with our luggage to our room and also served as a waiter at the restaurant, the rest of the staff seemed like we were also an intrusion. The room had cobwebs all over the corner of the room, behind the door. There were no towels for the pool/beach so the bath towels had to be used, which meant we had to use the same towels that we used at the pool for after our shower at night. There is no beach to swim in, just sand and rocks. And the location is removed from everything so we had to pay 150 baht per person each way into Thong Sala or do nothing but swim at the hotel pool and eat at the hotel restaurant. If you're looking for a location with some shopping and activities, better to stay at Hat Rin or Thong Sala. Anywhere else, you're going to have to pay for transportation every day, which could get costly.

We arrived at about 5 pm, seems that we were nearly the only customers.The woman at the reception seems to be very unhappy about our arrival, she was just having coffee with the other stuff. Even if there were nearly all rooms free, we got the last one with a broken hammock.Inside, the room was quite small, the bathroom was the worst i ever experienced in Thailand. Many ants, dirty, the bed wasn't made etc. It took about 5 hours to get someone to repair the hammock, the request for another room was refused.In the night my girlfriend felt pretty ill, i tried to get another bottle of water - senseless.There was simply nobody around. Reception was closed, so was the supermarket up the hill, no chance of getting anything.Can't imagine what would have happened if anything serious with you happens at night. Next morning we checked out, they offered us the room for half the price. Not because of our complaints, just cause they were no other guests.I tried to speak to the management, i was ignored. Worst hotel i ever got in South East Asia at this price.

this resort has a fantastic location, with a beautiful sea view over a private bay. the staff are very friendly, and able to give good advice on tourist packages with pick-ups available on this part of the island. this is a really quiet area of ko phangan and ideal for those who want to stay somewhere further away from the really touristy and noisy full moon party beach. the hotel also organises transport to the full moon party at reasonalble prices.
