Lovely Modern Hotel, Great Location

Arrived in early May for a three night stay in the Akyra and wish we'd stayed longer. The hotel surroundings and rooms was very modern and compfy. There is a lovely pool and bar right on the beach. The staff were extremely friendly and very helpful when we needed them and went above what I would expect as standard good service. Also the breakfast buffet was very good food and had a choice of cooked english breakfast, cereals, pastries etc. The location is about a 5 minute walk from all the main restaurants and bars of Chaweng beach so just far enough to escape the hustle and bustle of what I'm sure was a lively nightlife. All in all it was a great hotel and one I will definitely be returning to.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Rented a moped for the day to see what else was on the island. Stuck to the coast and saw some amazing sights and views. Definitely worth doing.
Football Golf just north of Chaweng beach is a must for football lovers

we couldnt have had a better stay at mama beach resort we really enjoyed it great food a lovely clean beach amazing friendly staff far enough away from the hustle of the town but close enough to walk for food shopping and boats etc. we wish we could have spent more than 3 nights there infact we could have stayed for the whole holiday if we hadnt booked other stuff!

It was okay and pleasant. We arrived at noon on the pier and someone was there waiting for us and helped us carrying our luggage along with other hotel guests.
The breakfast was nice, i never had muesli+yogurt+fruit for breakfast at a hotel, i think it was an interesting choice.
The bathroom lights sensor was a bit annoying, you need to occasionally wave your hands to get it on again while you're still showering but the rest was good.

Great breakfast and charming rooms. Nice staff and small enough to feel taken care of.A fear walk to the town, but bikes are available. Offers yoga, massage and bar right on the beach front. Staff is not good in English, but kind and sweet. The receptionist is effective and professional.

check in process was smooth. got room c6 with nice seaview. safe was not working, had to use manual key instead. no room phone. nice toilet with outdoor feel. wish there were more hooks in the room to hang clothes. overall, room is clean. a good 10min walk to reach the pier where the bustling starts. nice custom made sun deck. nice breakfast with seaview.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Make sure you agree on the places to go beforehand when renting a longtail boat to take you around. Our driver short changed us. Longtail boat cannot reach maya bay when sea is rough.

Mama Beach residence is a great place to stay in Koh Phi Phi. Compared to the resorts surrounding it we were very happy with our choice! It has a great sun bathing deck right on the beach exclusively for patrons of the hotel. Rooms are serviced and sprayed for mosquitoes twice a day. We loved this because there's nothing worse than waking up with a hundred bites and itching on vacation!
Friendly staff made our stay extremely pleasant! We'd stay they again in an instant!

Nice hotel but a bit far from pier

we stayed for 3n were satisfied with the hotel. front desk staff were helpful. we got a beachview at 2nd floor which is nice. they have a private space for sunbathing and swimming in the sea which is definitely a plus point if you like to do it. however, the hotel is at the other end of the pier (2nd furthest accommodation) and sometimes it is a hassle if you do not bring enough cash or forgot to bring something while you are in the city area. it is about 10-15mins walk depending on your pace. at night the road can be quite dark, although there should be no safety issue on koh phi phi. as with other reviewers, our bathroom is a bit open, but the worrying part is the bee's nest on the curtain. luckily we only see the big bee visiting once in the early morning. i guess this is part of "living with nature". another bad experience is when we asked room service to change our towels (the sign says to drop them on the floor). when we return in late afternoon, we found the same towels (fortunately mine has a hole and my wife's has some unique stains, which is how we recognize them) nicely folded on our bed. we quickly called room service but the local lady insisted that they are new. 10 mins later though, the lady came back with fresh towels to replace them. however, we are already unhappy and even thought of the possibility they did not change our bedsheet when we checked-in! breakfast was normal, but the countless flies are really annoying. again, i guess it is part of living with nature. if they can address the flies and ensure staff enforces strict hygiene, i would definitely recommend it to others.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Must travel to Phi Phi Ley to visit Maya beach. If possible try to take sunset tour (i recommend "The Original Sunset Tour") as it is a great experience.
