Ao Lo Dalam

Ao Lo Dalam is the north-facing bay opposite of Tonsai Bay on Phi Phi Don. Its sheltered, white-sand beaches are calm all year long, perfect for swimming, sunbathing and snorkeling. Hotels in Ao Lo Dalam include a few more up-market options than those in Ton Sai Bay.

This narrow isthmus is only about 150 meters wide. It’s easy to walk from Ton Sai Bay to Ao Lo Dalam, but these two crescent-shaped beaches maintain their own distinct styles. Ao Lo Dalam is quieter and has more resort-style accommodation onsite.

Beach chairs line the waterfront, and the water is so shallow that the tidal line retreats far into the bay at low tide. It’s pleasant here any time of the year, and tourists are likely to spend the entire day lounging on the beach or under a banyan tree, saving their energy for the after-hours scene.

Nightlife in Ao Lo Dalam is slow starting, but the hip bars on this side of the isthmus stay busy until late. Fire dancers entertain travelers with poi – fire twirling – displays outside bohemian beach bars, and guests lounge barefoot on the sand listening to live music.

Dining options include Thai seafood restaurants and a few hotel restaurants serving international fare. Accommodation in Ao Lo Dalam is perfect for anyone who wants to be close to bars and restaurants but prefers a quieter, more laid-back scene. To get here, take the ferry from Phuket or mainland Krabi, then walk or take a long-tail boat from Ton Sai Bay to Ao Lo Dalam.
