Laem Tong Beach
Laem Tong Beach is on the northern peninsula of Phi Phi Don. Only reachable by boat, this quiet and secluded stretch of white sand is completely different from the bustling beaches of Ton Sai Bay and Ao Lo Dalam. Tourists based at hotels in Laem Tong Beach enjoy total seclusion.
While the beach at Ton Sai Bay rents out deck chairs, Laem Tong Beach resorts reserve these extras for guest use only. This is the kind of place where a hammock and a pair of coconut palms is all a person needs. Most hotels have hammocks; otherwise local merchants sell them cheaply.
While the emphasis is on relaxation, there are a few activities available. Windsurfing and scuba diving are both popular, and the resorts offer equipment, guided tours and training courses. Daytrips to Mosquito Island and Bamboo Island are easy to arrange.
There are only a few restaurants and bars in this small community. The bigger hotels near Laem Tong Beach operate a few posh seafood restaurants with outstanding sunset views, but the most popular places are open-air cafés and beach bars. Be sure to reserve a table early if visiting during the high season, as space is limited.
Visitors arrive in the Phi Phi archipelago at Ton Sai Bay, usually from Phuket or the Krabi coastline. To continue on to Laem Tong Beach, charter a long-tail boat at Ton Sai. Keep in mind that the fare increases after nightfall.
