Great place to spend a weekend

Ao Prao Resort is a great place to relax for a weekend, if you're living in Bangkok or traveling around the country. It is however no place to stay much longer than a couple of days, since there is not so much to do or visit in the neighborhood.
The setting is really fantastic. All rooms are very close to the beach, even those without direct seaview. The beach is clean, quiet and offers enough shadow for those who are afraid of getting burnt. The water is very clear and stays shallow over quite some distance.
The sunsets are really fantastic...
The staff is very friendly, with the exception of the guys selling water recreation material and activities. They look completely disinterested and demotivated...
The breakfast buffet offers a wide variety of choices. However the coffee tasted horrible... The salads we ate for lunch were really delicious. However dinner in the Breeze restaurant was nothing special. We also tried the "O" Italian restaurant: beautiful setting, friendly staff, but the food was really bad: the mozzarella, the salmon and tuna carpaccio were not fresh at all; one of our lasagnes was overcooked (no sauce) and the other one was like soup. We still don't understand how the chef of an upmarket Italian restaurant doesn't seem capable of warming up 2 frozen lasagnes in the same wey...

been to koh samet but different beach fell in love with ao prao cuz its quiet and peaceful. have a night stay in ao prao resort very beautiful scenery - ao prao beach has only 3-4 hotels, this resort situated on the left i think it is the best area on the beach. our room is located on the hill not too far to walk - room condition is clean with balcony that can be chill all day. breakfast is good - food is good but everything they sell here is overprice.

only one thing that i dont like is services of the reception not very nice, they dont really smile and dont really give us the right information.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
be ready for expensive drinks and meal at the hotel - recommend to buy some drinks , alcohol and extra water and snacks, there is fridge provided. If you looking for cheaper food go to the hotel next to it call lima coco, very reasonable price.

when i first arrive, i did not know that they actually provide a free private boat service which will pick us up from the jetty. after i paid for baht to reach there and only i realise i actually can save up the cost which they claim they actually show it out in the receipt that i have receive from agoda or in the website, but i do not see any of the thing that the hotel mention. the price of the hotel is costly and i was hoping for a price that i pay can actually at least have a big toilet or jacuzzi.

Let me start with the pros:
- booked a beachfront room and the view was great
- great service (very thoughtful and personalized)
- quiet and most enjoyable beachfront
Cons:
- beach foot massage is a waste of money so forget about it (the head andnshoulders massage was good though)
- the view from the room wasn't as good
- too many bugs (mosquitoes sucking your blood while having a meal at the restaurant - can't help this) but the morning breakfast wasn't up to par as they had a jar of maple syrup squirming with flies!!

Stay at the ao prao beach only if u fancy a quiet beachfront
Stay at the ao prao resort only if u fancy a mid range stay and possibly getting value for your money

Best beach for kiddies
Compared to the other beaches on the island that I saw this was the most upmarket, fantastic trees for kids to climb, very family friendly

i really liked this hotel and its location. there were many other familes with small children and it was small and away from the busy parts of the island.
the downside was the room we were provided with was the furthest away and felt a little neglected. i paid a lot for the room but as i got it on discount from agoda i wondered if that is why i didnt get one of the many nicer rooms closer to the beach/resort. there was not that many people staying in the resort so i couldnt understand why we had to be so far away in a part that clearly needed some maintenance.
the breakfast and buffet dinner was average.
i would go back as i loved the beach and its so close to bangkok. not sure how i would feel if i came here from overseas however.

It was very good idea to choose to stay at Ao Prao Resort. The speed boat service from land to Samed island was included in the room rate. The room is very clean. We got the deluxe room no. 101 where was not far from the lobby with swimming pool and beach front view. The beach is very clean and nice. The breakfast is good.
There are several restaurants in this resort area. If we want to find 7-11or other restaurants, we have to take a taxi for THB200 to go to other beachside. However, we like private and calm beach. Next holiday we will go to this resort again and stay more days.

Ideal place for people seeking tranquility and nice beaches, in particular for families with small children. Sunset views from the beach or from your room can be spectacular and the beach is long enough for walks. Staff are very friendly and efficient and facilities sufficient. Rooms higher up on the hillside can be quieter, though you will need to climb more steps. Room size and interior can, however vary widely from very light to dark, from wide with a sofa and table to smaller ones with only a bed (and tiny table).
Restaurant Tip:
The restaurant between Lima Coco and Le Vimarn serves good seafood and other dishes and has air conditioning.

Stayed for just one night over the King's birthday weekend and although the hotel was full it was an extremely peaceful and relaxing stay away from the busier eastern side of the Island. Received a big discount on the usual rate which made our stay affordable and much better value than usual. Make sure you stop off at the resort's offices in Ban Phe to catch the free speedboat or you'll have a back-breaking taxi ride over the hills to get to Ao Prao from the ferry pier. Food was excellent and reasonably priced and the service very good in beautiful surroundings. We had to hire a Kayak to explore the coastline and were a little disappointed that the hotel did not offer these free to guests as many Thai beach hotels do. However we will visit again - a quiet and safe beach in a lovely environment although a little isolated.

Location is fairly isolated. Make sure you take the free speedboat transfer to sav a couple of hour to and from the mainland
