A great stay at a resort!

Clean, Quiet, well laid out, everything you want from a Beach resort.
8.7
Fantastic private beach, great views of the ocean. Nice, clean, well laid out rooms. Excellent. Very close to the main beaches where you can access other facilities, restaurants, etc.

beach weekend at Sai Kaew Beach Resort

Nice room, good location, good breakfast. Transportation connections (free ferry, taxi waiting) were very easy.
8.3
We asked to be close to the beach, but even within our price range of choices we were as far away as possible, with many empty places in between. Our view was that of the back wall of the cabin in front of us. The front porch area looks nice, but funky smells and mosquitoes kept us in. As we were traveling with a friend there was really no common place to meet or talk - the rooms were big enough for the bed, but not even for one visitor. The rooms were nice - modern decor, very good a/c, and very "designy" with some very nice features, such as an outdoor shower under a canopy of trees. Too bad the design didn't meet up with reality because the shower was full of leaves and thus very slow to drain. The location (relative to other hotels, but not our room within the hotel) was great - on the end of the beach, where it was quiet, but easy walk to the "action" of restaurants and bars down the beach a bit. There seem to be several distinct areas of the hotel - very modern double story typical hotel resort rooms surrounding a sleek pool. Individual bungalows on the rocky beach side - looked nice, new, great "jungle" landscaping, nice but a bit older pool. Third area (where we stayed) new "sets" of 3 - 4 rooms, that shared a common front porch area. Each area would offer ea very different vacation experience.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: If you want snorkeling skip the offerings at the hotel as they are twice as much as the trips arranged on the beach and basically the same trip. Go down the beach to the Ploy Bar and Grill (OK food) for a light show - at least on Saturday and Sunday nights shows at 8:30 and 9:30. Food was better one restaurant farther down from the Ploy Grill (don't remember the name)- get the fish curry in a coconut!

too many mosquitos

nice staff, good facilities, i like the layout of the delux cottages
7.3
there were too many mosquitos, i killed 10 a day,and was bitten numerous times inside my room with horrific large swellings. I noticed very few mosquitos on other parts of the island/beach, most likely because of the construction site that they are building new rooms on, or they should look into their sewage system or if there's any stale water spots on their hotel site

Samet weekend trip

Close to main beach.
6.3
The resort was clean and located in a good area. It's walking distance to the main beach but it also has its private beach. The rooms are basic but it what you need for a nice weekend get away. The restaurant was accomodating. They made food that was not on the menu when requested. The staff are friendly and cordial.

Koh Samet Quality

New Rooms, Pool Area, Staff
8.7
This is a very good hotel. My wife and I and our three kids stayed in a "triple" in the newer area of the hotel. I would recommend trying to stay in this area. I think these are called the "premier" rooms. The pool was great for the kids and it was about 10 meters from the door of our room to the poolside. These rooms are also closer to the main beach on Samet. The older rooms are near a private beach which is very rocky and not really suitable for swimming. If you are considering Samet as a destination, I must recommend the island. It is perfect for four to five days of relaxation. It is also an authentic community. The people of Samet graciously interact with the noisome tourists. When visiting intimate communities such as the one that exists on Samet, we should understand that despite the veil of economic transaction that separates local and tourist there is a genuine respect and humility that can be shown by both host and guest. The people of Samet sacrifice their privacy and share their home, when visiting such a place we tourists should be willing to sacrifice any unnecessary sense of entitlement and--as much as possible--forgo voyeuristic indulgences.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: There is an interesting restaurant that is located in the bay, near to the location of the ferry pier. You get to the restaurant by boat and the tables are built so that your feet dangle above the water and you see through the plexiglass tabletop directly into the water below. It's a nice but expensive place for a sunset dinner.

Great place to kick back!

In a tranquil area. Option of the beach or grassed area near the dining area. The beds are very comfortable and nice fluffy doonas. Umbrella and flipflops supplied.

Very close to the main beach and restaurants. The new rooms are very new, clean and fresh. Large bedrooms and bathrooms. I found the towels made into the shape of an elephant a nice touch. I did notice a gap inbetween the door and door jam that would allow mosquitos into the room. There seemed to me no set price for the taxi ride from the wharf too the hotel. I was charged 50Baht and others were charged 70Baht. The free boat is a nice bonus and an enjoyable ride. I would stay at this resort again and try out the cabins as these are being renovated.
Travel tip: There is a very good tattooist called Wijit. Very professional, great work and can be found up the street opposite the pharmacy.

Close to the beach but not on the beach. This is a good thing. The new pool is very nice.
5.7
We had a very pleasant stay here in the premier rooms. The restaurant is on the Pinapple beach side and it can get very humid as there is not a sea breeze on this side of the beach. This is the only place to eat at presently so if it is raining there is not enough room to seat everyone under cover at breakfast time.
Travel tip: Bring lots of mozzie spray!

A very nice stay

Large choice for breakfast, very nice nice service at restaurant, good food, wonderful bakery, 2 nice pools, and the cottages are very pleasant and clean

We stayed in the beachfront deluxe cottage for 4 nights, and this was very pleasant! The service is quite good, and especially in the restaurant compared to what can be found in any other restaurant. Very clean and the pastries are really great!! Next time I come to koh samet, I book a cottage there!

We stayed whilst rennovations were being done so it was a bit noisy and untidy. It looks as though the new section will be great.
Travel tip: Bring lots of mozzie spray

Simply the best of Samet

Great location in the middle of a national park, and love the beach

We spent a nice weekend at Sai Keaw Beach Resort... although at first, the staff seemed a bit 'relaxed' to take us to our room, finally they upgraded us to a Deluxe Villa (or something like that)... really a nice and comfortable room... the part of the beach were this resort is I think is the best of Sai Keaw Beach area, that although is the 'busiest beach' in Samet, this area is really quiet... what I didn't like at all were the prices... while a simple coconut is 30 baht buying it to a beach salesman, the resort gives you the very same coco for 155 baht!!! anyway, the weekend was great and we enjoyed the beach, the sea and the resort a lot!! will go back for sure! thanks, best regards, Carlos
