Relaxing and far away from the main tourist spots

We paid about 30 Euro for the room, which is ok even if the huts are very small. Our kajak trip (booked at the resort for 600 baht) was great. The quality of the food and the cooking skills of the restaurant chef could be much better. Drive down the street for some minutes and you will find better places to eat. All in all a great stay for little money, if you dont expect interantional standart. Perfect place for guests who like to discover the non touristic side of Krabi.

I was a bit apprehensive about Akanak, as we arrived quite late at night and it seemed to be in the middle of nowhere. It is about 40km from Krabi airport, situated on the Ao Thalane peninsula, so it is quite remote but if you're looking for a peaceful getaway spot - which we were - then this is perfect. The setting is beautiful and the bungalow rooms are decorated in a simple but effective style, and very comfortable. TV only has Thai channels but you can take DVDs from reception. There are only a handful of bungalows so the place is really quiet. Good seafood restaurant on site, although was a bit limited choice for a vegetarian! Staff are super friendly and very laidback - everything happens at a nice sloooooow pace here! You can do sea-kayaking from here through the mangroves which is amazing, and longtail boat rides out to the islands - Hong Island especially is beautiful. No beach on this side of the peninsula, but you can cycle just 10 minutes to the other side for one of thd most beautiful Thai beaches i've ever seen. Low tide in the afternoon means no swimming but you can watch the fishermen heading out to their nets to get the day's catch. There are a few hotel restaurants along here - perfect for a sunset dinner. The local population is mostly Muslim, so don't expect lots of bars or booze, which adds to the peaceful vibe, but you can still get a drink at these beach hotels... All in all, a great choice if you want to avoid the tourist hoards - we were really pleased with this place and wish we could have stayed longer!
