Quite modern hotel with excellent cleanliness
It's close to the main drag but quiet enough to get a great night's sleep.

I've stayed before at this hotel and will probably stay here again when I go back to Ao Nang. It's newish building and the rooms are a decent size. The bathroom was great and the showers were excellent. I had a non poolside view and there was not much to look at - just a bit of greenery. At least it wasn't a building site! Service was fair and like most of Thailand the staff smiled a lot.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Make sure you rent a scooter to get about otherwise you'll be forking out a small fortune in taxi fees and you won't go to half the places you could.

Great hotel and great service

I love everything about this hotel. We were greeted with a smile and was offered complimentary drink by the hotel staff when we arrived. Check in was very fast. The room was very clean and comfortable.
They had a masage service and it was very good and suprisingly the price offered was the same as the one in the streets. We obviously chose to take the hotel massage service so we dont have to go out.
However the hotel was quite a distance from the shops. We had to either walk quite a distance or took the tuktuk to the shops.
Overall we had a wonderful stay at Areetara resort.

The soi (small street) the hotel is on has a few other hotels on there. There are a few vastly overpriced minimarts on there. It is possible to walk to the beach, but it will take 20 minutes or so and better to use transport. Ao Nang beach is very scenic if you go near the end with the cliff and there are some other more beautiful beaches accessible by boat. Ao Nang itself is OK but not real Thailand. It's very tourist oriented and difficult to find the usual selection of Thai street food. The hotel was comfy although the lack of free wifi was not ideal. THe selection of foreign TV channels was very poor (BBC News and Fox Movies).
Hotel Feature Tip:
Make sure to get some transport to make getting about easier.

I stayed in a deluxe room on the 4th floor facing the pool.
It was the last day before the start of off peak season.
Room is very nicely design.
Bed is comfortable.
A/C is adjustable by remote.
Toilet had a shower and bathtub.
Breakfast is buffet style with not much choices nor refill.
Payable wifi available in room, free wifi available at reception.
Hotel Feature Tip:
Its location is abit far from the city centre where all the shopping, eateries and pubs are.
Nice quiet location.
Walking will take about 20 mins.
Tuk-tuk(taxi) is available everywhere.
ATM and tour agency available along the whole stretch of the main road.

The reviews from most people about this place is what got me to book it in the first place. It is nicely tucked not too far away from the main Ao Nang beach, but yet still accessible. The rooms are a nice size and the balcony on each room is perfect for couples.
The decent sized pool with sunbeds tucked in the middle on the resort, gives it a nice shelter away from the outdoors. The service at poolside was impeccable and the staff are always ready to help you. A room on a high floor also helps as it takes away the distractions from the families who usually stay on the lower floors.
The restaurant in the resort is not the best and wifi can be a pain when its only accessible in the lobby. But those are just small issues which can be negligible.
On the whole a great place to stay at for a very reasonable price. Airport transfer as well as the check in/check out process was very swift. I would definitely stay at Aree Tara again.
Restaurant Tip:
Try Aning Restaurant. Food is good and decently priced. It is located on Ao Nang beach and is walkable from the resort. For sports lovers, they have TVs available where you can watch anything from EPL, F1 and Basketball while you dine.
