Ao Nang

Ao Nang is the busiest beach in Krabi. This small town is a huge hit with tourists, and it offers plenty of amenities and resort-style accommodation in Ao Nang. This is the most important beach community in reach of provincial capital, Krabi Town, and it’s a popular first stop on the way to islands like Koh Lanta and Koh Phi Phi.

In the early days of Krabi tourism, Ao Nang was a haven for backpackers, but the scene is more diverse today. These days, there is just is much on offer for well-heeled travelers and weekenders.

Ao Nang has its own beach, and it joins up with Nopparat Thara Beach west of town. Long-tail boats cruise the coastline and take tourists to craggy islands and hidden beaches along the way. There are several dive shops around offering certification courses and organizing dives locally or out in open water.

Hotels in Ao Nang follow Highway 4203 from Ao Nang Mosque to the waterfront, and then back again toward Khlong Haeng Mosque. The best hotels are on the beach, while bargains are available to visitors who don’t mind taking a few minutes’ walk.

Travel agencies in Ao Nang can connect visitors with a range of activities in the region. Given the popularity of rock climbing, sea kayaking and diving in the region, many tourists at Ao Nang are adventure seekers planning high-octane excursions to Railay or outlying islands.

It takes little more than half an hour to reach the airport, and Ao Nang is the most sensible first stop in Krabi. From here, buses connect to other destinations on the mainland, while ferries depart for Koh Lanta and Koh Phi Phi. Long-tail boats connect to Railay and Ton Sai in just a few minutes.
