Thai Village Resort, Krabi

Booked for 3 nights on our Honeymoon. The Hotel was impressive looking and the room was very nice. I was slightly annoyed by the Bellboys who stood around waiting for tips. What annoyed me the most was the fact that this was set up as a lovely destination hotel with fantastic pool and bar but the prices were so high that no-one used the facility which gave it a very cold and unwelcoming atmosphere. The location was OK close to the nightly food stalls at the bottom of the road. I did feel that, from the price list in the room advising you of the charges for taking hotel property, to the shrink wrap "tamper evidence" of everything in the mini bar, they were trying to make as much money as possible from the tourists. This was a completely different feeling from other hotels that I stayed in in Chiang Mai and Koh Laanta and not what I was expecting. This may be because this is aimed at the Scandinavian Package Tourists and perhaps this hotel should be left to them. I feel that there are better places in the area for the money - perhaps as little more intimate and with better value. The other thing that let the place down was the poor english of the staff - expecially in comparison to other hotels I have stayed in.

The overall impression was ok. Pool area worked well for both adults and the child. The restaurants lacked a good feeling and design and seemed quite dead. First we needed to change the room since the first room was difficult to access with children's trolleys. The second room has a good access and location. It was a bit far from the beach but had a couple of really nice restaurants and a massage place right next door. It didn't have the 5 star luxury that we were looking for, but at the end of the day it fit reasonably well to our needs. The service attitude was good.

Overall a good family place; however, not in the best of locations.
