just a great place with all you can ever need
only possible way to get in/out - boats
If you do care about electricity in your room from 10am to 5pm - don't go there and don't read below. For everybody else - just a great place! Somewhere in a jungle with squirrels and monkeys, with a lot of exotic around, nice and friendly cafes (price range vary, but nothing is expensive), bobmarley people around, islands, clean sea (possible to swim even when low tide), next beach in walking distance, Tup island in 20 minutes... Well, it was one of a best place we saw.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : paradise somewhere on the end of the world, endless summer...
And take villa far from sea, deeper in forest.

Restaurant had good food.
Property looked like a garbage dump
No electricity from 9am to 5pm....that includes air conditioning
Not a 5 minute walk to Railey, not even close
This place was a complete bait and switch. Its like a hippie garbage dump complete with no electricity. We checked out after the first night and hiked to the other beach. I plan on trying to get my money back.

Nice modern rooms with TV
Building work going on + Tonsai beach is a little isolated from main Hat Rai lei West Beaches.
The hotel rooms were clean and modern. There was some buliding work going on and seemed to be lots of bin bags and crap about near the restuarant. Its on Tonsai beach which is a little isolated from the main beaches of Hat Rai Lei West and East. Its only accessable by long tail boat. or by walking across a rough rocky, jungley, muddy path. This takes about 20 minutes, its quite good fun, but we did it in the dark once and it was a bit creepy and dangerous. You can walk around the beach insted at very low tide. Tosai is more for backpackers, where as the other beaches are a bit posher and more resort like. There are a couple of good bars on tosai though, so we stayed there on an evening.

Good price, great service, Quiet & very peaceful.
Towels were a bit mildewed.
Good price, great service, Quiet & very peaceful. The Good Hotel staff, first and foremost, were fabulous. We arrived roughly two hours before check-in and they accomodated our needs happily. Definitely take the parking package deal so you don't end up paying unreasonable rates.
Yes, you'll notice when you get there, that there are a ton of friendly people. They are basically harmless and once you get onto Market (two blocks away), it's all monkeys and all quiet.
Nightlife Tip : The Chill Out Bar

Good clean big rooms
prob best accomodation on tonsai beach
difficult to get to railey west despite them being so close. beach turns to rocks when low tide
The accommodation was fine, but you need to be aware that its difficult to get to railey west from here despite the proximity! The first day we did a sweaty 30 minute hike to get there, when low tide you can walk across on the rocks but only late in the afternoon. prob a good place tpo stay if you are a keen rock climber- big cliffs quite stunning. if you are more of a beachy person and on a budget I would stay at railey east as thats a short walk from railey west.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : stay on railey east if you want to spend time on railey west beach but thats too expensive

Great surroundings. Monkeys, monitor lizards and squirels all abound. Plenty of rock climbing routes.
Mosquito netting and fly screens.
We arrived from Patong interested in a very different holiday. The Thai people were approachable and courteous and even allowed us some insight into their lives. My 6 1/2 year old daughter regularly played and baby sat Sallibenon, a 1 1/2 year old Thai girl. The people who ran the Ton Sai Bay Resort were friendly and Jam at the tourist / internet hut was very helpful. We even met one Australian girl and one American guy who had been there both 6 months and 3 months respectively. That's saying something about how relaxing the place is.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : When snorkelling, bring your own gear. The tour gear may not fit well and may spoil the fun which otherwise would be an awesome experience.

Large, clean bungalow, nice covered porch, great location to beach, incredible restaurant
Certain hours of the day the bungalows have no electricity
I would recommend this place. The rooms were large, clean and comfortable. Just be aware that the electricity goes out for a few hours a day (the front desk can tell you specifically the hours), but they are hours that you would normally be out and about anyway. The free breakfast was very nice and the other food at the restaurant was incredibly good. We very much enjoyed our stay and would stay there again. It was fun to watch the rock climbers go up the cliffs right next to the restaurant. This is the best hotel in the area. You can also see lots of wild monkeys swinging through the trees on the short walk from the bungalows to the beach. Very cool!

The rooms are nice and clean, location
walls are a bit thin, restaurant
The atmosphere for the resort was nice. The rooms are nice and clean with a lot of space. The only real downside was the restaurant. It was over priced. However, we discovered a cheap and delicious place right next to it so it wasnt a problem :)

The tonsai bay resort is well located but the villas are somewhat far from the beach unlike what the prospectus says. The rooms have comfortable beds, the shower has lot of hot water and the room service was ok. There were so many mosquitoes in the room at night due to the many openings in the doors, which do not seal well. The buffet was ordinary but the food quality was good. We had good views of the climbers on the side of the hills. The ionternet was erratic and the power went off everyday for a few hours if not more. The staff was generally kiind and courteous

I can recommend the cheapest room type since its overlooking the valley and is more cozy.
The expensive rooms are a bit hidden away and isolated.
Being the expensive place at tonsai, the resort is in between two worlds. And thats the problem. If you want to spend money, spend them in railey west. If you want to live at tonsai, live cheap like all the other people at the beach.
But I will recommend the standard of the hotel, and enjoyed staying there.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : No matter what people tell you, you can always walk to railey west. Just remember a flashlight for after dark trips.

The position of the bungalows are really nice, all immersed in a jungle of trees plants and gourgeus rocks. From the beach you can see the sunset and admire free climbers getting fun practising their hobby. The restaurant is positioned just under the mountain and in front of the beach, very, very nice.
If you come from Krabi it is very expensive to go to Railay beach, it can cost you more ore less 800 bath. Therefore long tail owners are not very nice and helpful. The water not really good in the afternoon, only in the morning. Then, due to they conformation of the bay where the hotel is located, there is no wind, so just starting from the morning the temperaturs are really hot
The area (Railay west)where the hotel is located, is really beatiful, full of moutains coming out from the sea and with different attractions to see(if you take a kayak. Moreover the bay offers you all primary services you need: internet, massage, tourist trips, bar, restaurant (we took one for 450 bath for visiting 4 island and it was value for money. The feeling is good, very easygoing and free.
Hotel Feature Tip : If you must go to Railay beach west or even east do not take a boat from Krabi but from Aonang, it will let you save a lot of money

Tonsai bay is a quiet cool place, the bungalows of Tonsai Bay resort are the most comfortable in Tonsai (but much more affordable than those on West Railey)
Tonsai is a quiet place for backpackers and people who seek quiet holidays in spectacular surroundings (it's so beautiful!!!). You can only reach it by boat, no road, but there are several small shops, restaurants etc in Tonsai. As said above Tonsai Bay Resort is not luxurious but the most comfortable option in Tonsai. Neighboring West Railey is more upscale but also busier, less quiet, more "commercial". From what I've seen I really couldn't have chosen better than Tonsai and better than this particular resort in Tonsai in the Railey area, which is the most beautiful seaside landscape I've seen in Thailand.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The "4 islands" or "5 islands" snorkeling day trip and the day trip to Phi Phi by speedboat are not very expensive and worth doing after you bargain them down a little.

this was a perfect place for a family holiday. one of the positive things was the good atmosphere with the climbers, nice to sit and watch them while eating breakfast. we also found it funny to see the monkies in the trees by the bungalow .the beach was beautiful and it was many possibility for nice trips..Nice to sit on the beach watching the stars in the night.
