Fern Resort, Mae Hong Son

Well, yes, like what many others have noted, this hotel has a very beautiful outdoor setting. It's next to a national park. Staff are nice as well. Apart from those two, I was not impressed with the room at all. Most importantly, the bed was in major need of a replacement because we felt the metal spring against our backs. For the price they charge in a small Thai city, I'd expect a more comfortable bed. I also don't understand why they don't have a tv in the room. There's nothing to do but to stare at the wall or each other at night since the transportation in/out of town is very limited and it's dark outside the hotel at night for any outdoorsy activities. It'd be alright if you have a day to spend just in the hotel area. If you are transitting through Mae Hong Son for just a night, you'd be better off with a hotel in the city center. The hotel shuttle bus strategically drops you off in front the hotel owner's restaurant in town, but the food at the restaurant was not good at all. Try some other restaurants.

Our stay at Fern Resort was very relaxing. We had our own driver so the distance from town was not an issue. We ate most meals at Fern Resort and were quite satisfied with the food. We also enjoyed the 7.5 km nature trail behind the resort though it took nearly 4 hours. Perhaps a hike to the waterfalls would have been enough. I appreciated the quiet atmosphere and pleasant grounds of Fern Resort and would recommend it to others who don't mind being outside of Mae Hong Son.

Really enjoyed the place and everything about it. Was a bit nervous about it to start with because of the price but from the moment we got there it was truly wonderful.
