i have stayed in the building corona, room was clean, and room is without exaggeration and without omission last time i stayed in the building areca, tha building is old, it did not feel clean. but even now, such as poor drainage capacity of the basin, may have a problem with maintenance. furthermore, our new building in the beautiful evergreen, next time i would like to stay.

the hotel consistes of three buildings. we stayed in the evergreen building which is the last one. good choice because it is quiet and relaxing. the room was large and very comfortable. the internet is free and pretty fast. the breakfast was pretty much the same each day with both foreign and asian dishes. room service was very good and very fast. the bath was very nice but had a high bath tub which is hard for older people to get into; a shower would be nice. all the staff were very responsive and very friendly; from housekeeping to the front desk. we were there for new years and had to pay baht each for the evening "gala". disappointing food choices for baht. no carved beef or carved ham and only one seafood choice. there was a roasted pig but not many people opted for it. other than the food for the evening "gala" we really liked and enjoyed our stay at the areca lodge. this was our second stay at this hotel and it will not be our last.
Restaurant Tip:
Just outside the front building is a street with bars, pubs, restaurants, massage and just about anything else you would think of in Pattaya.
Walk out the back entrance near the Evergreen building and just across the street is The Avenue shopping mall. Many restaurants, shopping, and a Villa Market grocery store with American/European items. Also a 24 hour eatery with good food at good prices. An American style breakfast including coffee was 79 baht.

Nice Resort Style Hotel close to nightlife!

i've been staying here for the past couple of years and i've never had a bad stay. make sure to stay in the evergreen section as it's the newest wing of the hotel. if you're on a budget, the rooms in the corona and areca wings are older and less expensive. personally i looked at the budget wings and although i like their balcony overlooking the pool, the rooms were a little worn so i move to the new wing. in addition, the rooms come with a good breakfast, so try and get up before 10:30am or you will miss it.... well like i did for the first 3-days of my last visit! the huge pool is great for lounging during the day and bringing back guests for swim party's....
Nightlife Tip:
Great Thai Beer bars right out the front of Areca to both the left and right on Soi Diana!

Great Hotel with a very nice Pool Area

Our stay at this hotel was o.k. The pool area is very comfortable and relaxing. I thought that the breakfast closed too early at 10:00 with most hotels I experienced closing at 11:00. I do not like the key drop type of hotels like this one but prefer the swipe card doors where both my wife and I can have a key. There was a lot of construction going on right behind the hotel which made things very loud until 6-7:00 p.m.
Restaurant Tip:
Right down the soi from the Areca is a restraunt called the Robin Nest I had breakfast there which ended me up in the hospital.

The areca is located near the centre but not near the beach. Unfortunately there is no shuttle service. The rooms are quite ok although a bit oldfashioned (tv, bathroom) The breakfast is nice but nearly the same everyday. Overall a good 3.5 star hotel

i stayed in the evergreen wing and had a large and comfortable room. the location is excellent for being within walking distance of bars, cafes, shopping, eating but remaining peaceful and relaxed. the front desk service and pool side is efficient and courteous.
i have stayed in pattaya a number of times in different locations and felt that this time was the best choice for price, comfort and convenience.
as i missed all of the breakfasts and went out a lot, i cannot reasonably make a rating for food or facilites except for the pool.

with many options to choose from in pattaya, i investigated areca based on a lonely planet guide, and then booked it based on the reviews. while a relatively long walk (10 min) to the beach, there is a lot of activity in this area, but also taxi scooters are easily found nearby.
i found the facilities to be nice (gym, nice pool, etc.) and the rooms were clean - this is an important feature for me and i will gladly pay more for this. the rooms were pretty standard - tv, lockbox in room, etc., and free-wifi throughout the hotel.
the guests seemed to range from couples, families, and solo travelers so is accommodating to all. while the staff was friendly, they didn't do much to help me in terms of booking or finding me any deals, such as transportation back to bangkok. they just told me where the bus station is, and didn't even know the bus schedule. i would have expected them to know this.
the only request that i found odd was that they asked for a thb deposit for the hotel key - never heard of this before. instead of paying cash (because i always forget to get this before i leave and thus lose the deposit), i gave them my credit card number instead. on the plus side, while i only booked one night through agoda, they let me extend on short notice for a 2nd night at the same rate on that day i was supposed to check out. i may have been lucky due to availability despite it being the busy christmas season, but also an advantage of staying at a large hotel (3 towers, 5-6 floors in each tower).
Nightlife Tip:
A 10-minute walk to the beach and 15-20 minutes to Walking Street, but plenty of nightlife and restaurants just outside the hotel and in the surrounding area.
