not the best pattaya experience by a long shot

we have been to thailand many times, and this was our third visit to pattaya. with the exception of the pool area, bar and restaurant, our experience at the nova platinum was very disappointing.
upon arrival after 3pm, our room was not ready. after more than 20 minutes in the lobby we were eventually given a room which appeared to be undergoing maintenance. the room smelled damp, there were damp spots and polyfilla on a room wall and in the the shower. the toilet door couldn't close properly, the shower was not working properly, and the room door's panel appeared to be peeling. however, upon phoning agoda, we were moved to another room by 7pm on the following day. this room had half of a roll of toilet paper, and the exercise of trying to order a new roll after several calls set the standard for the poor service received from housekeeping. we stayed at the hotel for 7 days, but only received fresh soap, upon request on our 7th day. each day, we would need to call for fresh towels at least 3 times before the towels would eventually arrive.
i feel that we were also subject to some sort of racial stereotyping. my wife appears european and i appear malay; however, we are both south african and have been married for many years. until i took the issue up with management, each night that we returned to the hotel, the night security would ask my wife for her passport (despite us previously advising him that we were south africa). this was offensive, as this is what they would typically request from escorts for security purposes.
further, the hotel is not merely a 5-minute walk from walking street. i would estimate it to be at least a 15-minute walk.
this hotel must have been a beautiful hotel during its early years. however, it has become dated and it is poorly maintained. i would never recommend the hotel, nor stay there again!
that being said, thanks to the rest of the team at the pool bar and restaurant. this was one aspect of the hotel that was enjoyed

worst ever hotel - value for money is disgraceful

this is undoubtedly the most disappointing hotel we've ever stayed at - anywhere in the world.
the checking in process was a shambles - the worst i've ever experienced. the room was in very poor condition, with many things not working properly, including security doors. after a day of putting up with this disgrace - i complained bitterly to everyone including the owner/manager - until we got a change of room. this room was in a different part of the hotel. so beware - enquire which part of the hotel they are proposing to put you in. the standard we originally got was extremely poor - and at 4 star prices was totally unacceptable.

We had booked for 5 nights based on the information. The hotel has 3 buildings one with a pool. It does not mention which building you will be in. Rooms are paperthin walls and many indians stay there and are dirty and knock on room doors not knowing what rooms they are in. Our view from our room was a brick wall and no pool view.We only stayed one night of a five day stay and booked elswhere.

This was my second stay in this hotel. I stayed in the Executive room (newest building). The rooms are spacious and clean, with a lovely view over the huge swimming pool. I enjoyed my stay there. However, the staff at the reception is really average level. There English skills are average , and the way they treat you is not professional at all. Checkout process took them half an hour, although I reminded the reception three times earlier that I will be checking out at that specific time. Hotel management should improve the quality of their staff.
