Quiet hotel, great location for exploring Phuket

for this trip, wanted to stay somewhere outside of the mainstream resort areas - resorts too busy in february.
kathu in central phuket has easy access east, west and south and all areas are easily accessible by bus, taxi, tuk-tuk or walk.
excellent value for money. hotel only provided breakfast but we found the local restaurants were excellent and made new friends with restaurant staff and patrons.
would definitely stay at baan maksong again.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Central south Phuket - Easy access east, west and south for all attractions.

Great location for exploring Phuket

Absolutley value for money, a suite for $53, breakfast and amenities. Friendly staff, excellent location for access Phuket Town, Cha Long and Pa Tong.
This trip we decided not to go to resort areas, too high pressure in February so elected to stay in Kathu, central Phuket, no trouble accessing all the areas we wanted to visit.
Hotel supplied breakfast, we visited local restaurants for our lunch and dinners.
Hotel Feature Tip:
Value for money, laid back, no resort pressure.

stayed in baan maksong for only 1 night enjoyed the hotel,friendly staff and helpfull.
did not swim in the pool but looked nice,this place is well furnished with great air conditioning.i had a motorbike so was easy to come and go as i pleased.
i used the herbal sauna before bed was nice and slept great.
Travel tip:
Motorbike is very handy in this place

Worst experience of my life

Where to start. First, I requested an airport pickup from the hotel which never arrived. I called masking from the airport and they said they'd refund me the money...good right? Well, when I got to the hotel which looks NOTHING like the pics they refused to refund the money. The manager was piss drunk, the hotel was filthy and we were the only guests for obvious reasons. If it wasn't 11 pm we would have left immediately. The room smelled like urine, garbage in the hallways, cigarette butts everywhere and a pile of excrement at the bottom of the stairs...no joke. Do not go here. Sleep in airport if you have to.

wonderful hotel in Bali style

First thing we noticed was the smell in the room. Like moist. We think the room was not justed many times. During our stay we saw only a few other guests. The most visitors are coming only in daytime for the Spa. The interior of the hotel and the garden is lovely. European breakfast is ok but very small. Do not eat your two sandwiches to fast with jam. Wait till the eggs and sauceges are at your table too.
For us the hotel is ok because it is close to family we visited. For other visitors a hotel at one of the beaches is more logical. Close to the hotel there is the busstop to Phuket City or Patong Beach.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Go to the Gibbon Rehabilitation project, just about 20 km to the north. It is in a national park with a waterfall.

The Airport Pick Up Service provided by the Baan Maksong Hotel was accurate and reliable. A driver was waiting for me at the airport and took me safely to the hotel. The staff was always polite and helpfull. Room and bathroom were nice and clean. Every day you get drinking water as well as teabags and instant coffee powder on your room.
For breakfast they offered just American breakfast, i. e. toast and marmelade, fried eggs, bacon and sausages. Some fresh fruits and a bigger variety would have been nice. Unfortunately the hotel's owned restaurant was closed all the time.

charming hotel within 2 km of major shopping

this is quite an unusual resort, ground floor is surrounded by tropical gardens and walkways throughout. It features antique ceramics (of heads, pots,etc.), red brick , reminiscent of a timeless Thailand. We had a car, so shopping was easy. If not, there are lots of tuk-tuks around.
Restaurant was under renovation. Awkward, as the only dining is in 2 small street restaurants, opposite the entrance. That said, manager/owner offered to taxi us to and from dinner anywhere in the downtown.Good cheap farang and Thai food, though.2 Several room maintenance problems noted, 2 light bulbs not working, 1 bedside lamp not working, vanity clogged. all fixed reasonably promptly. Free wi-fi in your room.
Hotel Feature Tip:
good professional spa, reasonable prices, wide range of services. best room price (50% discount)was thru' Agoda. Avoid a walk-in reservation.

room is one of the best locations, altho it has twin beds. Hotel feels a bit rundown, but all facilities work fine and there is good ambiviance there !! free wi-fi, fridge and coffee maker in room.

Convenient location and good value for money

I've stayed at this hotel a few times before as my office is located very close by. The hotel is basic but clean and the staff are friendly. Room rates are very good for the standard that it is. I wouldn't recommend this hotel for a leisure traveller as such as it's quite a way from the main touristy areas (ie the beach, shopping, nightlife etc) but for someone like me who travels there for work it's a convenient hotel, and there are a couple of restaurants within walking distance. It's also on the bus route between Patong and Phuket town so you can get around without paying the exorbitant taxi prices. Unfortunately on this last occastion though they had over-booked their rooms and I had to check-out a day earlier than planned and find my own hotel for the last night. They were friendly enough about it but they should have assisted in finding a similar hotel. I would go back but simply because of the convenience for my office.
