beautiful view and bungalows on the ocean. next to the Amanpuri

Not much in the immediate area.

This is the second time we have been to the Chedi( the first 17 years ago when it was the Pan Sea) it is a beautiful hotel and a marvelous setting. The service, rooms and restaurants are excellent and for a break it is a five minute walk on the beach to the Amanpuri to sample their restaurants. Whenever we go back to Phuket next, this is again the place we will stay.

beutiful beach, very nice staff, good resturants, very nice breakfast. The hotel is very peaceful and located at a lovley spot.

the hotel is isolated and it was a littlebit difficult for us to go out for small sallies beacuse we had to order taxi every time . The rooms are ok but has no uniqueness, shower stall needs improvments.

We liked this hotel very much .It took us some time to enjoy it's benifits . At first we were a littelbit dissapointed beacuse the hotel is isolated and no so close to patong (20 min by taxi appro-400 bath each way). But after we learned how to get arroud we enjoyad our stay very much .The staff was very attentive and service oriented.

Beautiful location. Fantastic beach. I had one of the beach rooms and it was great

Some staff members were not as helpful as others.

Once I got to the Chedi I did not want to leave. It was very relaxing. Thea ponsea beach is beautiful. The beach restaurant was convenient and the sunset bar was a great place to view the beautiful sunset. I did not mind the stairs at all. The breakfast buffet was good as well. My room was fabulous.

Great location and lovely rooms. Beautiful secluded beach.

Not for those with difficulty in walking as quite hilly and lots of steps.

We stayed in the Chedi for just one night, having checked out of another poor hotel. Lived up to the hype. Great location, lovely cottage accommodation, good restaurant options. Beautiful beach, fine sand gently shelving into the water, no rocks so perfect for swimming. Cheap drinks and ice-creams sold on the beach by local sellers as well as great reasonably priced Thai food.

Restaurant Tip : Local Thai restaurant on the beach at hotel Lemongrass Restaurant above the shops in town - good Thai food. Catch Bar on Surin Beach - very Ibiza/Miami! Part of the Twinpalms Hotel

Location - azure sea, white sand, quiet cove.

BBQ and other 'theme' evenings were overpriced and, as a result, under attended.

Having stayed in Phuket twice before this was the most expensive of our three hotel choices but was definitely worth it. The staff are attentive and friendly, the location is unsurpassed and the buffet breakfast (complimentary) is exceptional. I took my fiancee and parents for a 3 night stay and we were upgraded to adjoining villas. The Chedi is located in a small half moon bay on the west coast of the island, the hotel shares this spot with the Amanpuri which many say is Asia's finest hotel and the crystal clear waters, white sand and lush foliage are befitting. The hotel's architecture is impressive and there are some interesting historical artifacts on display such as a giant 18th century war drum! On previous Thai trips I've enjoyed eating the fisherman's local catches at beach front cafes, unfortunately as the cove is so small & secluded you'll need a 30min walk or a taxi to reach any of these. I wouldn't recommend this hotel for anyone who is unsteady on their feet / elderly as the villas and facilities are connected by numerous steep steps. The only other negative point was that we found the bed a little spongy and uncomfortable.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Take a 30min cab to Nai Yang beach (close to the airport). There you'll find the Phuket National Park, thick forest and wonderful tropical birds.

Fantastic location, great staff

lots of stairs. strick restictions on where you are able to sail when using resort. Like most of Phuket it has its fair share of sunburnt Europeans

On arriving at the chedi we were extremely pleased with the feeling of peace and quiet after the hustle and bussle of other parts of Phuket. While the resort is not as new and fancy as others it is definately worth while. If you happen to be staying when they are offering the dinner on the beach as it certainly a highlight.

Restaurant Tip : have dinner on the beach

Location, private beach.

Really bad bar. Hotel is really showing it's age and neglect of upkeep

Incredible beach. The people at the front desk are really great. People in the breakfast restaurant are hit or miss. The food was never really all ready and it didn't stay hot. The hotel is in serious need of maintenance and upkeep. It is looking old and neglected.

Restaurant Tip : Surin Beach, out of the hotel to the right and then to the right again to the beach. A ton of really good restaurants on the beach.

Private beach, well appointed rooms, friendly staff, great pool, great breakfast buffet!

Average rating only for the food in the thai restaurant

The Chedi is a place where you can enjoy an idyllic tropical island holiday and forget the surrounding built up environment of most resorts in Phuket. The property is situated right on the beach and is buried amongst well established gardens. the outlook from the hotel is across at the only other hotel on the beach which is nessled amongst the coconut palms. The clean, uncrowded and picturesque beach enables you to have a relaxing day on the beach or you can choose to spend it by the huge pool. The hotel rooms seem to have been recently renovated yet they maintain the original charm of the resort. All staff were very friendly and went out of their way to accomodate all our needs where required. We had a really nice stay here!

Nightlife Tip : I would recommend giving Patong a miss!

The beach is secluded and stunning, only sharing with Amanpuri Breakfast is the best (Western) we've had in Thailand Staff are very friendly and helpful Bungalows are gorgeous

Resort *is* a little tired looking as people say but didn't bother us Taxis anywhere are expensive (not their fault)

The Chedi was recommended to us by a friend and we were not disappointed, it truly is a gorgeous destination. We were upgraded to a bungalow third row back from the beach on arrival, which was very much appreciated. We'd booked the hillside cottages, and they are set quite back and I wouldn't have fancied staying in those however. Many people have mentioned that the resort is a little tired looking, which it is, but we didn't mind at all. The beach alone is worth the trip, it is perfect - the water is crystal clear and they have a great floating platform offshore which you can swim out to for sun-baking or just enjoying the different perspective of the resort. It sits along side the famed "Amanpuri" resort and shares the same beach, it apparently *is* a public beach, but felt very private and not busy at all. The rooms were well equipped, free wifi through the whole resort, DVDs available to borrow and great lounge chairs outside on your balcony to watch the sun setting. There seems to be a trend with hotels to use ceramic pots to refill shower gel, shampoo etc which i really dislike, they seem unclean and you have no idea of the quality of the products. (which I have to say I didn't think was great) - they do supply you with gorgeous lemongrass soap though which we loved. Definitely take the free shuttle-bus to Patong (9pm leave, 12:30am return) - to experience the madness of Patong, it's a big heaving mess but worth looking at. We ate at the hotel restaurants on several occasions, which was all lovely, but the buffet breakfast was incredible, everything conceivable and delicious (I'm not a buffet fan at all - but this was great). Location is near Surin Beach, which as mentioned the local Taxi mafia will charge you 500-600 baht to take you anywhere - it was a real downer on the trip and we would rent a car/bike next time (as dangerous as Thai driving is) - but gets expensive to go anywhere.

Restaurant Tip : Nearby Surin Beach offers some more inexpensive eating options on the beach. Treat yourself and dine at 'Silk' at Surin Plaza (10 min walk from the Chedi) - amazing food. Liked the look of the Beach Club on Surin Beach (Part of Twin Palms resort) - but unless you take the buffet dinner over a-la-carte, they reserve the best tables for the former option.

nice beach and location good service and friendly staff

the property is very tired and over-due for a good touch up : which makes hotel poor value for money push button taps in the public areas (ie toilets and pool shower like in a budget facility) dingy fan in the lobby toilet beach lacks hotel service thai food there not impressive

I have always chosen The Chedi for my trips to Phuket : I like the private beach and the style of the hotel. However I notice that the hotel is now so tired and old : the management have clearly not bothered to update, or even touch up some of the areas. Here is why I think it is poor value for money (especially if you pay full price in peak season) : 1. Rooms are nice but in need of a makeover : there are many new hotels that have copied the Chedi "style" in the 20+ years since launch : the hotel needs to keep up to the times 2. Lighting on the path back to the rooms is extremely poor : they need to put lights on the coconut trees 3. Lighting in the room is awlful : the halogen lights that were installed back when the hotel was opened (20+ years) have not changed : you end up following your shadow 4. No water pressure in the shower 5. Towels are so used and thin 6. Floorboards in the rooms creak a lot because they are loose; dangerously slippery 7. Appaled by the state of the lobby toilet : push button taps and a wall fan : just like in the domestic airport : is this a youth hostel? 8. Again, push button taps for the pool shower : so you constantly need to have one hand on the tap in order to shower 9. No service on the beach : letting the locals sell drinks is sweet but... 10. Was not very impressed with the quality of the Thai food there Overall : given the quality of new hotels available and the price of the Chedi, I do not believe Chedi can sustain it's current room rates. Unfortunately, I do not believe it is still a 5 star institution...

Deluxe Beach Suite room was very nice, good beach, hotel was not busy (early season).

Service not as expected. Overall hotel could not be said to call itself 'Chedi'.

We loved our room as it was a beach suite. However, you may be disappointed with the standard rooms and low cost hillside bungalows. If you have stayed in other GHM Chedi hotels you should expect a much lower standard of hotel and service. We were surprised that the main dining hall catered for smokers.
