A clean beach, unique site on the hillside, great staff, an authentic Thai experience, amazing views of the ocean from the villas, private and luxurious
Will need a bit of an upgrade eventually, no hotel convenience store, not much local shopping, very old fashioned cot
We came with our 20 month old son from Patong beach for our final 3 days in Phuket. The Chedi was a breath of fresh air and a luxurious experience. The hotel is built into the hillside with the design of the main building all open and facing the beach. Several levels house the foyer and waiting areas, the restaurants and the bar over looking the pool (and ocean). The villas are all connected by garden lined paths and stairs that wind through the hill. Our villa was Superior (not Hillside) and was very private with views over the sea. The Chedi is the perfect place to unwind and relax with all the luxurious service you need. We swam in the sea and the pool, taking walks to the main Surin Beach for some casual Thai food and went to dinner at the Oriental Spoon nearby. The breakfast buffet is of a high standard and the 2 for 1 cocktails at the bar watching the sunset is a must. The best Cosmopolitan I have ever had. The staff were genuine and very pleasant, especially to our son.
Shopping Tip : Do your shopping first and come to the Chedi to relax and unwind

The Chedi is just a class-act hotel -- made great efforts to book tours and golfing. The restaurants were pretty good. Got updgraded to a beach villa with a little extra, only worth it if you end up spending a lot of time in the hotel and not doing a lot of day excursions.
Sometimes the English was a little weak and the restaurant and entertainment recommendations for people in their late 20s-early 30s were very off. I.e. Phantasea was no good. In the end, it comes down to how much money you want to spend really.

Restaurant Tip : The tapas place near the other 3 high-end restaurants near Patong were great. The rafting trip the hotel organized was also superb.

location, beach, excellent service, friendly staff, comfortable bungalows and probabbly one of the best breakfast buffets we have ever encountered!
For older folk to many stairs, the price of the food and expensive shuttle service
The food was excellent but very expensive. Four meals a day for a couple costs about the same price as the room. For shuttle service to the airport the hotel charges 1100 baht, while a taxi in a simular vehicle costs 600 baht! If you opt for a taxi, you need to make your own arrangements.
However the beauty of the place and cleanliness of the beach and the entire property make it a wonderfull place to stay for able bodied persons capable of climbimg many stairs.
Restaurant Tip : A short walk from the hotel is the Surin Bay Inn,which has an excellent restaurant with a large variety of food at very reasonable prices.

Very nice beach, and the bungalos were also nice!
i had a speical request for my anniverssry and they were great abotu ti!
Needs to be renovated a bit to make it more hig end.
The staff is extremely friendly and helpful.
The food is not fantastic but it was nice! You can also eat at the Amanpuri and the food there is delicious.
The hotel has a very nice private beach.
The bungalos were also very nice and confortable.
Witha nice dek with launch charis to look at the view and relax while at your room.
I had a facial and they use a nice brand of all naturl products. if you want a spa treatment it is best to book early for times in the late afternoon as those times get booked very fast.In general it is a lovely place and I would definately go back to stay again.
Restaurant Tip : Restaurant at the Amanpuri hotel

The main advantage of the hotel is the location on the beachfront and its own secluded very clean beach.
The Chedi hotel is a very good hotel for quiet vacations, perfectly located, we were upgraded from Hilltop room to Deluxe. The bungalows are OK, clean, though they seemed a little small to us. Food is OK, though for Thailand is enourmously overpriced, any bill was not less than $80 for two with no alcohol.
One minor disappointment was that the hotel blocked the extra bill amount (significant one) on one card whereas we paid with another :(
Travel tip : take a short walk to the Surin beach - Catch bar, a rather trendy place with great ambiance.

Private bungalows, gorgeous interiors, bottled water supplied, shuttle to Patong Beach every evening, 2 for 1 happy hour, beach thats virtually private and beautifully clean, boogie boards, tapas with drinks are great.
Private and secluded away from the busy towns so expensive to get in and out of - hotel shuttle to airport approx $30, shuttle to Phuket town similar, taxis nearby quite expensive.
Perfect private get away for a couple, gorgeous space, privacy, impeccably clean, lots of amenities. Definitely best if you'd like to stay on the property- exploring Phuket from here can be expensive and a little logistically challenging. Unless you rent a car...
Little town nearby is simple but has a fun aussie bar and a few good restaurants.
Nightlife Tip : Local aussie bar is a lot of fun- locals, sports on large TV, great drink specials.

stunning cottages with sea views
wonderful privat beach
great waves and fee use of water sports
lovely meals and staff
stunning spaces
close to town which is one of the most eye opening and traditional thai towns - locaol food stalls etc
room service and wine is very expensive at the hotel and the off licence is some way away in town
the cabs and cars from the hotel are double the price of a cab if you walk into town
stairs are an issue if you have trouble walking
A wonderful and beautiful place, perfect for honeymooners or those looking for a tranquil stay in a stunning setting.
you must go!
Hotel Feature Tip : go to the town for a good look at local life. I would not bother with the free shuttle to patong - it will just disappoint once you have been to Surin!

Excellent beach, indiviual villas
older hotel which requires some maintenance
I stayed at the Chedi in August 2009 which is in the off season. Booked a hillside cottage but was upgraded to a deluxe cottage (believe the cottage is the same but is located closer to the ocean). We really enjoyed the beach and the affordable drinks provided by the local vendors. the ocean was fairly rough given the time of the year but we were able to swim a few days.
The hotel is older and some maintenance is required (shower has some mold and there was a crack by the shower door where water could get into the wall) but we were able to over look this.
Would stay again is we could get a similar rate on Agoda
Restaurant Tip : get drinks on the beach - they're much cheaper than the hotels

the beach was so clean and beautiful, the view from our room was like paradise, the staff were so friendly and helpful, the breakfast buffet was amazing with a chef the to cook your hot food on hand, it was a very clean and well laid out resort,
you have to pay to use internet if you don't have a laptop,
only one bus at night leaves from the hotel to patong beach if you want to go there during the day you have to pay for a car (around 500 baht),
lots of stairs to get to the room so wouldn't be good for less mobile persons
it was truly an amazing place to stay, i wouldn't have left if i didn't have to, we stayed in a couple of other places and this was my favorite of the whole trip, would go back in a heart beat.
Restaurant Tip : eating out of the hotel is a much more wonderful experience and a lot more cheaper, there are lots of great little thai places in patong beach.

Amazing location
Amazing beach with great view
Amazing breakfast
Great staff
Hotel food a little pricey.
Hotel transportation into Patong Beach could be more frequent (hotel only provides one bus daily that leaves at 9pm and returns at 12:30am).
We stayed in a delux room with an amazing sea view for 5 days. We think we could live there forever. Didn't want to leave. The Chedi was paradise on earth.
Hotel Feature Tip : Organise your own driver to get around Phuket. Handy to have one on call and cheap to organise.

Location! One one of the best beaches on Phuket
Charming bungalows
Great staff
Rooms slightly dated with loud air conditioner
Many of the cottages are far up the hillside
Overpriced hotel restaurants/bars (don't bother)
Ready many mixed reviews but we really loved this place. One of the best locations with the hotel actually on the beach. Surin beach down the road is also great with many excellent, cheap eating options. The stories about the stairs are true and the rooms are slightly dated.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Hotel offers a free shuttle to Patong beach
Lots of cheaper eating options down the road
Beware the aggressive tailors trying to sell suits

Hotel has a fantastic location with one of the best beaches in Phuket.
The check in at the hotel was efficiently done and we were upgraded to a larger cottage without asking for it. The housekeeping services were fantastic and the rooms were cleaned twice a day. The beach was one of the best attractions - neat, clean and well provided. Breakfast was the only meal we had in the hotel - a great spread but unfortunately we got almost the same spread each of the 3 days we stayed there. Overall an excellent experience and we would certainly stay here the next time.
Nightlife Tip : Must visit Sterolabs - a walking distance from the hotel

Exceptionally beautiful location with the reort design taking optimal advantage of the environment
Cottage style rooms (even deluxe) are reasonably small and not lavishly appointed for the price.
The Chedi boasts a stunning natural location blending with the environment. Nestled above a pristine private beach on Surin Bay, this resort is the perfect place to unwind and relax while enjoying the tropical suurounds. The accomodation in thatched roof rustic style cottages is comfortable, but lacks the luxurious appointments of similar five star resorts.

beautiful view and bungalows on the ocean.
next to the Amanpuri
Not much in the immediate area.
This is the second time we have been to the Chedi( the first 17 years ago when it was the Pan Sea) it is a beautiful hotel and a marvelous setting. The service, rooms and restaurants are excellent and for a break it is a five minute walk on the beach to the Amanpuri to sample their restaurants. Whenever we go back to Phuket next, this is again the place we will stay.
