good place to visit outside major holidays

We have stayed at this hotel three times now and have had very mixed feelings. The first visit was superb in every way with first class staff and excellent food and ambiancs.
Our second visit was at Easter two years ago when the standard staffing level was not increased to cope with 100% occupancy. The net result was staff who were clearly exhausted doing their best but nowhere near the standards you would expect from such a prestigious brand.
This visit was first class with regard to the room, staff and food. There has been a change of General Manager and the inevitable cut backs that he has made are visible e.g. restaurants closed in rotation over a one week period and we were led to believe that this was now their standard operating procedure. The staff are almost all very welcoming and helpful with particular mention of the head chef in the main restaurant.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
We enjoyed a day sail to James Bond Island. The trip was excellent in an upgraded Chinese Junk with a very competent and friendly crew. The island was disappointing as it is full of stalls selling the same items. Exactly the same could be said for the "Floating Villlage".

Very Good Hotel

JW Marriott is a choice if you choose to relax in the hotel and not going anywhere. The hotel is located in the north of Phuket, which is vary far from the attraction which is mainly in the southern part of the island. However, this hotel has an excellent room, swimming pool and other facility that we can enjoy. The beach however has a rather big waves, but we still enjoy swimming in the beach. Breakfast is also excellent with a lot of variety (including Dim Sum, which my children really enjoy).
Shopping Tip:
There is a mini mart in the area called Turtle Village, and the hotel provided a shuttle to go there. However, there are only two restaurants there with mainly western menu. I prefer to eat at the hotel.

Nice hotel but not great one

stayed for 5 nights with great expectation based on reviews from other guests but it was obvious this resort has been overestimated than its real value. First off, we had to ask them to let us move to the other room due to the noise of motorbikes and trucks from the road which is laid only 20 meters behind from our room. Obviously you won't want to fall a sleep with mororbikes noise during your vacation. Some staffs were super kind but some staffs especially at housekeeping were not at the level of 5stars resort. We also were not happy with room cleaness -A lot of dusts around the bed frames... Swimming pool was great anyway and my 22months' old boy enjoyed the kid's pool a lot. Overall, this is just one of the normal resort you can expect in Thai.

Nice Location, Hotel too Big

The room was a lovely size but very dark and smelt of damp and meldew. The breakfast was extremely good and so was the Grill restaurant. The Hotel has three large pools which were crowded and noisy, but has a great location on the beach and near the airport.
Restaurant Tip:
The Grill is very good, lovely fresh fish and good wine.

Staff wonderful
Staff were so welcoming and friendly. The deli on site was the best stocked shop you could hope for.

hotel was great and the staff were all so very happy, welcoming and so so friendly. they really made the holiday.
only a couple of minus points... the children's pool had no shade which is really a scandal as everything else was so good. we had to use a different pool with the swim up baformica had lots of shade. we also did not realize that the beach is a protected area which, whilst wonderfully natural, meant that access with a stroller was not possible and there was no facilities or parasols, so not suitable for young children.
the garden room was also quite dark and not worth the extra money.
but the wonderful little touches of the hotel were absolutely great - all the above are just observations - the sushi bar by the beach with live music had huge chairs great for little ones, the deli was perfectly stocked, the free bikes with kids seats, the dvd players and free films..... and the staff were simply amazing. all in all, a great hotel, highly recommended!

The JW is really woth staying there. The three pool areas are separated, so everybody will find a good spot. Various restaurants offer a very good variety of lunch and dinner options. And finally, the service is very good, people are friendly and helpful.

Great resort for family, but beach is bad

large resort with lots of rooms and extensive gardens. there are a large number of eating options with ginga (thai) being by far the best. the main buffet restaurant was fairly standard food. our family really appreciated having the deli on premises. offers a wide selection of quick meals, snacks, desserts, bread, drinks, etc. the deluxe garden view room we stayed in was large and clean. the resort is quite large, so expect to do some walking. our 3 year-old daugher liked the kids club and children's pool.
since jw marriott is quite a large resort, it contains everything you could want and no need to leave the compound. we would consider going back to this resort.
the only downside is that the beach is quite useless. the slope of the beach is quite severe and the hotel does not maintain any facilities on the beach. do not expect to go to the beach at this resort.
Restaurant Tip:
Definately go to dinner at Ginga as much as possible. Price is equivalent to other restaurants in the resort, but food is much better. Preferrable to make reservations for any of the restaurants to guarantee seating.

We had a fantastic holiday with our family, son 8. There was so much to do and great choices of food. The bars were good with happy hour. You could choice to be casula for a day or be more formal another day. Loved it

we absolutely loved the hotel. the rooms were great, having the variety of restaurants, bars and kids activities was fabulous. we enjoyed "happy hour" as this tended to keep us in the hotel rather than searching for other options outside. all staff were tremendous.

Yes, it is not close to the hustle and bustle of Phuket, but that is exactly what we loved about it. You can always take a trip to town and when you do, you will be happy to come back. We absolutely loved the JW. Every night we ate at the Thai restaurant , outside and watched the beautiful sunsets over the water. We loved swimming in the andaman sea, but also loved both pools offered at the resort, too. If we didn't live so far away, we would come again. Incredible Top notch resort! One of the most relaxing vacations we have ever had.
