Good option for a large group
- Superb Beachside Location
- Great Swimming Pools
- Cheap Pool Bar Drinks until 18:30
- Fantastic Breakfast Buffet
- Local restaurants right next to the hotel
7.3
As a group of 40 people, we first had problems finding a hotel with availability during peak season that's close to the beach and wasn't too expensive.
After quite a lot of research, we opted for Katathani mainly because of its location and the overall very good reviews.
All in all, we had a fantastic time. Highlights: Breakfast buffet, 60-Baht beers (all day until 6.30pm) in the pool during sunset, perfect location right next to a secluded beach.
With the rooms, we were a bit disappointed however as the older non-refurbished ones (refurbished ones were booked out) didn't quite live up to 5 Star Hotel expectations. The "Junior Suites" which most of us had were rather simple, a bit smelly (old wood) and quite small. The whole hotel is HUGE so there's not exactly a boutique atmosphere and you may have to walk a long time from your room to breakfast/your favourite pool (try the Beach Club!).
We were fine with all this as we didn't spend too much time in the rooms and were happy that all of us could get rooms.
However, as a smaller group or individual/couple there's better value in Kata - some of us came early and stayed at Avista first, amazing brand new place at unbelievable value (when on special)which I would highly recommend if you can live with a short walk (hill) to the beach.
Nevertheless, Katathani has certainly been a good choice as well - if you prefer a beachside location, convenience of everything in one large complex and don't plan to spend too much time in your room!
Nightlife Tip:
Seduction Nightclub @ Bangla Road in Patong as the only non-sleazy place to dance you can find! :)

Pleasant stay at the Katathani Beach resort.
A very nice hotel complex situated directly on the beach. The garden in front of the hotel is vide and gives both nesessary shade from the hot sun and good posibilities for sun bathing. The pools vere many and nice.
8.7
The Kathatani Beach resort was a big resort, but it was never crowded. There is good space every where. It is located directly on a nice beach with a great garden in front of the hotel. There are several bars that also provides lunch, and the various restaurants in the complex deserves absoult a visit.
The staff was always frendly and smiling and willing to help you out with whatever problem you had.
The hotel is suited both for families with small children and to couples. The athmosphere at the hotel was quiet, but if you vant more noice and amusement, you can take a trip to Kata beach. It is only 5 minutes away by a tuktuk taxi.
Restaurant Tip:
When you are at Kata Noi, take time to visit the Momtri Boat House restaurant in Kata. This restaurant is very nice and has a very good stocked vine cellar.

The experience grew to more positive day by day!
The location is superb and the gardens in front between hotel and the beach is the best feature of the whole resort.
And the beach itself ofcource. You cant find any whiter, cleaner and crystal clear water

We stayed at Hotel Katathani beach resort for 12 days and our overal experience was exellent. We was 2 married and grown up (50+) Norwegian coupples and we could compare this resort to a simmilar 5 star resort in the Laguna area (Bangtao bech, Phuket) last year. The facilities was more spread ou at this resort, but the garden area, the good location directly on the beach and the always friendly and serviceminded staff - gave us a best time hollyday ever.
The nearby Kata beach town are was positive and there is several top rated resurants in the area, in adittion to 6 good restaurants at the hotel resort. We highly recomend this resort to all kinds of holiday travelleres, family, children and seniors!
Restaurant Tip:
The Moms Tree Kitchen - go directly up som stairs at the north end of the beach. Rated Thailands best in 2009. Also Moms Tree Boathouse was in the same class.
Golf at the Lock Palm golfcource, apx 30 minutes taxi.

3 day stay at Bhuri wing
Far enough away from the Kata madness. Great choice of pools across the property. Beach is right across the street.
8.7
Overall we were disappointed with Phuket, but this resort did give us some well needed rest and relaxation. There were lounge chairs and umbrellas available on the beach for 200 baht. Beach is topless which can be a pro or a con. Breakfasts at Cinnamon were great as they had all the options, western, asian, european. Great selection! Thai massouses arond the pool were a little bit pushy at times and they told both my girlfriend and I that we were "sexy." We imagined they were assuming to convey that we were pretty people or something... don't be offended.
Hotel Feature Tip:
If you spend 500 baht in the general store, you will receive 1 hour of free internet usage which normally runs 200 baht. Great way to stock up on pre-game/vorspiel beers/wine and get use of the internet.

Great Sun
Beautiful facilities and pools, right on the beach
8.7
This resort has beautiful grounds, facilities and pools that you can spend the entire day enjoying. We were somewhat disappointed with our "garden" view room which was certainly not worth an upgrade and was a little dated. The room was certainly livable, but was not what I would have expected given the price and rest of the hotel facilities.

Katathani Beach resort - Recommended
Clean, calm, polite helpful staff
9.3
We booked the holiday through Agoda after reading reviews of the resort and a colleague having stayed there recommending it. We flew from Hong Kong as we were staying there for a while beforehand. Stayed at (new?) the Bhuri Wing for a week in January. Our very first impression was one of disappointment as the hotel and beach are separated by a road used by the building site vehicles accessing the new development on the hillside to the side of the hotel. Aside from this inconvenience we soon found that the Katathani facilities and staff were just what we were looking for. Staff were polite and helpful at all times. The swimming pools were clean and enjoyable with our 4 year old son enjoying exploring the different parts (bubble pool, child's area, etc). We went to the beach late afternoons when the sun was not so hot, waves exciting sometimes which was fun. Beach clean with food etc., available from several shops along the stretch. The seafood restaurants in the road along from the hotel were quite good too, with plenty of fresh stock each day. I do like the seafood fried rice served in a pineapple :) My wife said the crab was good. Hotel food was good with a decent selection. Buffet breakfast was everything you'd expect, very satisfying. Plenty of choices of restaurants in the hotel to choose from in the evenings but some may require booking in advance. We went on a one-day trip to Kai island which was very nice, beautiful beaches, feeding the fish in the shallows. Didn't go to Phi Phi as it would have been a longer speedboat trip which was just unsuitable for us this time. Journey from hotel to port was longer than expected though, almost an hour in a minibus (was a Saturday morning though so maybe more traffic?). Did the elephant trek (quite local) which we all enjoyed as we had never got so close to elephants before. Overall we all enjoyed our break there and wold recommend it to others. Paying a bit extra for the car to pick up from the airport was worth it too.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Try to arrange and book all sightseeing early on. We left it late and couldn't go to all the shows/trips we wanted as they were already full.

paradise in Thailand
the hotel grounds are immaculate the beach is beautiful the staff are lovely
8.7
we had booked a de-luxe room in Bhuri wing which had an outlook of huge electric pylons and a road and some scruffy looking shops.not pool ocean or garden as advertised.I did not know this hotel was so huge and is still expanding. There are only two dining rooms for breakfast and catering for so many brings problems for the staff to cope with.If the busiest times are avoided its fine. The Chom-Talay is much better than the Cinnaman. The beach is fantastic and the hotel stretches right round it.I can understand why this hotel has won so many tourism awards but please be aware you may not get the room you think you have booked .The hotel was full when we were there so was not possible to change. This was the only thing that marred this otherwise wonderful place.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
sunsets are wonderful here but go up to Bob Marleys for a spectacular one.also go up to end of beach to the right the beach shack there does lovely snacks delivered from her home to order.

Wonderful hotel

We enjoyed every minute of our stay at Katathani. The atmosphere was great, the staff exceptional and the location is perfect to escape the hectic streets of patong and kata. To get this peaceful escape it does mean you will need to hope on a scooter to see the rest of what phuket has on offer. We will definately be returning to Katathani when we get the chance.

A Week in Katathani
Service, F&B, Facilities, beach
6
The hotel and its facility are fantastic. It's a pity we stayed in Buri Wing which does not have any view on the beach, except for that the place is great. Kata Noi beach is a little isolated and taxi to go out are a total rip off.
Price are expensive for what it is
Restaurant Tip:
Mom's tri restaurant on the hill is fantastic
