Naiyang / Naithon
Despite the roads to Naithon being recently improved, the area is still relatively undeveloped and great for travelers looking to 'get away from it all'. Hotels, guest houses and eateries share a quiet, laid-back atmosphere. Small and inexpensive restaurants are situated literally on the sand for the length of the beach, with tables and chairs set up on the sand. Sirinat National Park stretches all the way to the island’s northernmost tip and the park headquarters are located in Naiyang.
Parasols and beach chairs are available from vendors, and the waters are renowned for their good swimming. Snorkeling is particularly popular with domestic tourists, and there is some coral to explore near the headlands at either end of the bay. The submerged remains of a shipwreck lie further off the coast near tiny Ko Waew at a depth of 16m. Snorkeling and dive trips can be arranged at many resorts. Between November and February, sea turtles lay their eggs on the beaches, and visitors are asked not to interfere in the lifecycle of the endangered creatures.
Most guests arrive from Phuket International Airport via taxi cab. While taxis, songthaew and local buses are available, the cheapest and most convenient way to get around is to rent a motorcycle from one of the many shops around the island.
