Huge disappointment
Family friendly, big swimming pools, close to the OTOP market.

We decided trying out this hotel. Upon booking we had let the hotel know that we were a young couple on a romantic trip (I told them honeymoon although it was not).
The check in took ages and the staff were not friendly nor helpful, but we finally got our room. Heading for our room it occurred to us just how big this hotel is - took us quite a while just to walk to the room.
The room was OLD. It looked old, smelled old, felt old. The cramped balcony looked upon a dirty yard. On the roofs of the balconies below there were cigarette bums, empty beer bottles, old flip-flops etc.
We were thinking that there had to be some mistake (and to our relief it did indeed seem like a mistake since we had received twin beds instead of king size bed).
Calling the reception asking them politely if they might have given us the wrong room they responded that all rooms here were the same. I then told them that we had twin beds instead of king size bed (which obviously was wrong). They decided to try to replace the twin beds with a king size, but with no success. So, after yet a long time in the reception we got a new room. Same same, but at least king size bed. After removing some dead and bloody insects smeared on the tiles, roof and mirror of the bath we settled in. Oh well, this sucks, but we're not gonna let it ruin our holiday.
The air conditioners were old and noisy and could not cool the room adequately. There was a lot of noise from the hallway at night and in the mornings. Lots of insects.
The night before leaving we tried to book a taxi for the airport through the reception - we had an early flight and was leaving 0530. The hotel was apparently unable to help with pre-ordering taxis before 0630!! Never experienced that before. Bad bad service - had to go out and arrange for taxi ourselves.
Even at hugely discounted prices I would not consider going back to this hotel under any circ

Great hotel
Excellent hotel. Great pools , 3 pools to choose from. Good buffet breakfast to start the day. Peacful and quite in hotel but still close to everything

The hotel had fantastic facilities like the pools,bars and ammenities.Very close to everything in Patong inluding the beach directly across the road

Overall i would have to say that the Patong Merlin Hotel is one of the best in Patong.The pools and ammenities are second to none in this area and with a bit of an upgrade on its rooms and bedding it would be Number 1 in Patong.The staff were very polite and helpfull,the breakfast was absolutely superb with plenty to choose from.The Patong Merlin is a very good Hotel for Families and kids would be most suited here due to the fantastic ammenities,pools and games room. I would be more than happy to book with the Patong Merlin to stay again.My rating for this Hotel/Resort would be 8/10.
Shopping Tip:
I would say that you could put all categories into the quick tips.This Hotel has location,location,location.

wonderful Patong
clean hotel, with a quite large rooms, clean and tidy

very nice hotel, at the middle of Patong city where all the entertainment and night spots are just few minutes walking, the breakfast was rich, many varities to eat, delicious and fresh, three swimming pools with a recpectful space, the staff are fantastic really we enjoyed three nights in this hotel.

The value is bad bad bad. the next buildings like bliss is good. nice building and great view of patong. like holiday inn, countryyard, and a new hotel like b...something, all better than this one. it's old and on a bad location on patong. rooms looks poor, and view is blocked, and its expensive. not even 3 stars. some hostels better.

we really enjoyed staying at this hotel - the pools were really relaxing and the food was great. we thought the location was quite good - it was very close to the beach - about a 5 minute walk. there are 100's of markets near the hotel which is very useful. great food and great atmosphere. we would stay here again.

a very decent hotel with prime location close to all facilities and especially beach.the room was clean and neat.house keeping is good.breakfast was really good with lots of varities.friendly staff.once we entered the hotel they welcomed us with a drink and a wet towel.we were really pleased by that gesture.it was really refreshing after a long journey.over all had a pleasant stay at patong merlin.we would defenitely recommend the hotel to others.
Shopping Tip:
good for shopping,but really have to haggle a lot.you have to quote one-thrid ofthe price they quote.
