Every time an Agoda customer checks out of a hotel we send them an email asking them to write a review of their stay. This is the only way reviews can be submitted. Every review must then be approved by our content team before being posted on the Agoda website. Therefore, unlike many other travel sites, ALL Agoda reviews are certified and genuine.

The Chedi- a "zen" experience
8.7
One additional comment- the shampoo, lotion, bath gel and other amenities were in adorable miniature clay "pots" which means they are refilled each day. I prefer using toiletries that I know have not been used before, which I can throw away when I am done using.
If you are looking for a peaceful (yet within walking distance to many beach-side restaurants- try "Taste" restaurant), I highly recommend The Chedi.

I personally like The Chedi a lot. The location is perfect (fantastic beach) and the hotel is not brand new but has a lot of character. But I think that there is a big difference depending on the room you have. It is not a hotel for raining season because you need to walk to arrive to the main lobby and there are no nice places to be in case of bad weather (apart from your room and the restaurants).
Restaurant Tip:
The restaurant at the Twinpalms hotel is very nice (moderm and stylist) with nice food and music (and prices are almost the same that in other restaurants around)

Luxury of Tranquil Private Beach
Private Beach & Individual Chalet surrounded with Green

The Chedi shares its beach with the very exclusive Amanpuri. Hence, the private and well maintained beach is what you are paying for. Car rental is a must as the hotel is far away from F&B and it is quite hike from the street to the hotel.I would not recommend the Chedi to families or hard core tourists. More suited for couple who looking for a romantic private hid away to enjoy the sun and sea. Please BYO vino to compliment the lovely evening of sunset and breeze. Highly recommended for beach wedding.

Difficult to stay with a young child. Better for a couple without children.

When checking out staff's attitude was not pleasant. Quite rude. That kind of attitude is very disappointing.

Nice beach but not impressive resort

If you are a beach person, you might like this place. But considering the rates, the resort itself is not value for money.
Hotel Feature Tip:
You need to go down early if you want to reserve a sun bed on the beach.

Overall lovely hotel, wonderful staff and service, very beautiful place - location is everything: perfect quiet beach and the image of an idyllic tropical escape. Also no complaints about the room - large, firm comfortable bed and a great night's sleep. A huge bonus was the unlimited free bottled water - never come across this before.
However, we must mention the stairs. We are relatively young and fit (and have gym membership) but did get tired of climbing 200+ steps to the top of the hill at least twice daily (to room 228). This did not detract from our wonderful relaxing holiday but it would really be worth spending more and upgrading one category of room from a hill side cottage in order to be closer to beach and reception. Don't worry about Tsunamis. Only rooms up to same level as the pool were affected. We opted for a high room to be safe but it was completely unnecessary. On the plus side think of it as a built-in stairmaster! We certainly came home fitter. Also the drive is quite steep so make sure you wear grippy shoes (and take the torch provided in the room) if you go out. But don't let these points put you off the Chedi.
This is a lovely beach hotel with loads of character and soul. ie: not a corporate business 5 star - if you want this maybe you'd be better off at the Laguna complex.? ( We have a lot of experience of both types and chose this hotel for its individuality).
Most other guests were European and people tended to keep themselves to themselves creating a very quiet relaxed atmosphere.
We ate lunch most days at the little independent beach restaurant (on your left as you face the sea) - yes, it really does serve food although how they do it none of us could work out! Allow at least an hour for your order for great Thai food and relax with a spectacular view and cheap beer!
The hotel restaurants are good and not madly priced although Thai dishes are limited. We prefer a more Thai experience and went to Surin beach each night. Walk to the end

The standard of the room was 3 star, but we paid $US362 per night, so were expecting 5 star quality. We found it to be totally overpriced. We have stayed in the Chedi in Oman, which is far superior to the Chedi in Phuket.

You have to try at least once the buffet dinner (eat lobster as much as you can) and reserve a table at the beach restaurant.
Surin Beach is a 10 minutes walk and you can have nice dinners over there. Half price of the Chedi, but it is more home cooking style, but surely each restaurant with its own style.
Travel tip:
We did a tour to Phi Phi Islands, (book with Amman tours, very professional) with great snorkelling, and a second tour to James Bond Island, with great canoeing (book at James Bond Island Tours, nice local guys who work hard to offer a nice product).
