Location, location, location Room too small, decor in bathroom old and jaded, reception staff not friendly I stayed here again in May 2009, having been here first in 1994. The room was just big enough for a bed and the bathroom quite tatty. No bath, no shower curtain and leaking pipes. It is right across the road from Solo bar and lots of other nightlife but as transport is essential wherever you stay in samui, i recommend paying more for a much classier place a little outside the hub.Only had breakfast once and it seemed ok.Beach was 50 yards from my room.
Restaurant Tip : On the north coast, between Bang Rak and Bophut, BBC restaurant at sunset, 5-6pm, good food and wow what a view

Peaceful within grounds of hotel, try to get a room in the middle of the huts. Beach at one end packed with awesome night clubs(lounges on beach with LOUD doof-doof music until 2 am) and the busy nightlife on the street at the other end, with the Solo club also pumping out LOUD doof-doof!)so try to get a hut right in the middle! otherwise, excellent, lovely place with breakfats on the beach. Had a lovely stay - nice receptionist, lovely hut, small but clean and basic, lovely peaceful hut in centre of huts so not too noisy, if you're partying its an ideal spot! Tours booked were a good price, would stay again.

steps away from the beach, friendly and knowledgeable staff, pleasant breakfast, excellent room service, very close to all the action; restaurants, beach bars and nightclubs, value for money. amenities very basic, place perhaps in need of a make-over, sometimes a little noisy at night. this is my second time I've stayed at Al's Hut and my mood hasn't changed since. It still has that charm of having your own little place right in front of the beautiful sandy beach of Koh Samui. I also choose to stay here because its so close to all the action, so I don't have to worry about tuk tuks and long distance walking, and also it comes at a reasonable price.
If it's your first time in Koh Samui this place is a top pick for you.
Nightlife Tip : At night Ark's Bar which is 20 mitres from Al's Hut is a good place to go at night, as well as Bamboo Bar...
