The place seems pretty new. They have a set of rooms on the beach side and another set of rooms across the street on the mountain side. I stayed at the mountain side was perfectly happy with the room. Many hotels have this sort of structure (Amari, for example); there is not enough room by the beach I guess. The room is quite large with a large bathroom and a balcony. I told the hotel that we are staying there for our honeymoon when I reserved through agoda. After we checked in, they brought us champagne and cake. :)
Overall, very nice stay. I would try buying fruit from the fruit-and-corn guy walking around. He is very friendly and carries great tasting mangos.
Ok staff. Good service. Clean room. Good breakfast. Away from loud partying crowd at the center of chengwen. The best part is the size of the room; it's huge.
A bit of a walk to the beach.
Small area on the beach for sun bathing (about 50 chairs)
Away from loud partying crowd at the center of chengwen.
- Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : We took an experience dive trip up to koh (meaning island) nangyuan. Amazingly beautiful. Though I hear if you have a license, Koh Tao is a better spot.

The drinks are expensive, as it is a luxury resort, but they have happy hour - buy 1, get 1 free from 4-6pm. We stayed on the beach side of the hotel, which was wonderful, as the newer side of the hotel is across the road & up many steps. Be prepared to climb stairs. If you do not like climbing stairs, you may not enjoy this resort.
- Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The center of town is a little further away- maybe 10 min. taxi ride. You can walk along the beach. The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle service three times each day to the city center.

Great rooms and good service. Was so nice to see the manager talk to every guest - a great touch.
Restaurant and bar prices are on the high side, but then high compared to local prices... having said that, what hotel charges LESS than outside. It was by no means extortionate, and less than 4* hotels in the UK.
The beach at the Kandaburi is great. There was some litter there, though after speaking with the Manager, it appears as though there is a local action group that the hotel is part of to push for a local property owner to clean up the beach as it affects many hotels.
To walk along the beach to a busier section is about a 20 minute stroll. If you want to use a songthaew (local bus), about 50 Baht pp (AFAIR) should be enough to get you into the centre of town.
The hotel is split by the road. The rooms at the top are slightly smaller. We had an upgraded room that was on the lower side of the hotel, near the beach (131). It was a corner room, and was amazing. The bathroom was enourmous - I have seen smaller bedrooms! We were welcomed at reception with cool towels and a drink, and entered the room to find a rose petal filled bath and heart arrangement on the bed, along with sparkling wine, a cake and fruit (it was our honeymoon). Our room attendant was great, giving a turndown service, and arranging towels into animal shapes etc!
As for food, we only ate breakfast at the hotel. There was a massive choice of hot food, an omlette/egg/pancake station, Asian and Western options and quick service for tea and coffee.
For the price, I really couldn't fault the hotel. Yes, there are some minor gripes around the beach cleanliness, but it didn't deter me from swimming in the least.
I would go back in a second...
- Restaurant Tip : Walk out to the beach and turn right. Keep going down until you get to the Ark Bar. Great, chilled out music in the evening and good, cheap food.

My husband and I have just returned from a fantastic honeymoon in Ko Samui. We stayed for two weeks at the Kandaburi resort and were very satisfied. We had a deluxe room on the third floor. The room was beautiful and looked just like the pictures I had seen on the hotel’s website. I was a little bit nervous as this was our first booking through Agoda, which saved us a lot of money, but I was worried that we would be treated like 2nd class guests since we had paid so much less than the price listed on the hotel's own website. However, the hotel treated us just like any other (full-paying)guests. We were given welcome drinks upon arrival, and our room was specially decorated with rose petals etc. About an hour after arriving a bottle of champagne and a cake were sent up to our room, complements of the hotel (because it was our honeymoon.)(I had told the Agoda travel agent in advance that this was a honeymoon booking.) The breakfast buffet was very good, even by Swedish standards! We never did try the hotel’s restaurant as we usually had our dinner on the beach. (The beachfront is lined with restaurants.)
- Restaurant Tip : We walked down to the Relax Resort restaurant (on the beach)several evenings. They had an extensive menu and the prices were very good. You should definitely try a coconut shake, as well as an ice cream sundae with coconut ice cream!)
Many people thought that we would be bored after two weeks on Ko Samui, but we found that it was just what we needed after planning our wedding and hosting my big American family in Europe. We were able to relax and had plenty to do. We even got our “Open Water” diving certifications. We did this through Blue Planet, which is a small dive shop recently bought up by a young British couple. Blue Planet was fantastic. Not only were the prices lower than most of the other dive shops, but we received private lessons from a well-experienced diver.
