I really enjoyed staying at Maya Buri resort. My room was really big and so beautiful..our bathroom was bigger than the whole room. Just you need a motorbike to move all around...but you can rent it directly at the hotel.
They were really nice people and helped us all the time
really a great place to stay
maybe a bit far from chaweng beach
Quiet but too remote if you don't drive

Need to place more advertisements on local maps or travel guides about the location of the hotel. We had trouble trying to find the hotel for more than 3 to 4 hours.

The road outside is under reconstruction and it is very rough at the moment. Looks like being so for several more months.
The pool was out of order due to filtration problems for 5 of our 7 day stay.
The WIFI keeps dropping out or was out all together.
If you like the beach and night life, then this hotel is not for you.
- Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Hire a motorcycle from up towards the main road for 500 Baht for 3 days and travel around the island on that. The beach and eating at Fisherman's Village Bo Phut 2-3km away is good.
Great time at the Maya Buri

As already mentioned, hotel is very inexpensive probably also due to the location which is a little away from the night life. Everything happens 10 km away. Need a motorbike or car to really see the island, which can be rented cheaply at the hotel.

The set back for the Maya Buri is definitely the absence of the beach. Tourists who are beach lovers or avid shoppers will find transportation a problem as the hotel is not located close to the main road but along a rough
rocky road leading up to it. But with very affordable rates , the hotel might still appeal to a niche group of travelers. The hotel service needs to improve to impress the average traveler.
- Travel tip : Jetty with island hopping ferry cruises was located about 10-15 minute ride away from hotel.

So easy to go to Chaweng and anywhere else by car for just 300 Baht, and so good to return to complete peace and quiet. Road under repair but just a short stratch, no problem at all.
- Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Go to the Island Resort and Spa, north Chaweng for foot massage and late dinner on the beach. The Spa services are extraordinary and the grill, especially blue crab in curry powder, is out of this world. Never take the Seatran (ferry company) trip to Koh Tao, they manage people like cattle, you will spend all time in transfer crowded like cattle with little time left for activities. Take a catamaran instead.
