The pool is big and clean.
Beach is baeutiful and very clean.
Rooms are big and amazing.
Internet cost a lot to use.
The transportation to the city is only until 21:00.
DVD is not in every room - The hotel charge for it.
We were on honeymoon for three days in this hotel.
The hotel was the best we have ever been in thailand.
All the employees are the best , smilling all the time , very welcoming. Food is very good in the pool area and in breakfast.
We have only two not so good things to say :
Internet cost a lot to use,DVD is not in every room - The hotel charge for it.
Nightlife Tip : Go to the city, nothing to do in the hotel...

-Smiling of the staff everywhere
-Good swimming pool and private beach
-
This hotel located in a very quiet place between ChaWeng and Lamai, very good for family stay because its quiet beach, good swimming pool, wonderful foods. But may not fit the needs of party animal as it's a little bit far away from noising area...
Hotel Feature Tip : Strongly recommend to book the cottage.

we liked it very much, it's a 5 star hotel with quiet location on middle of Chaweng Noi beach, which is next to the Chaweng beach (~2km to Chaweng).
There are still constructions going on next to the hotel, but it did not impact our stay at all - there are no significant noises, etc.
Restaurant Tip : There are recommendations to try Beach Love restaurant, however we did like more Charming restaurant, which is next to the Beach Love. To find it, go from hotel to the sea, and turn right, it's 5 mins to walk.
Try green curry, sea food basket prepared in different traditional ways, lobster.

Clean rooms, 2 times per day housekeeping, friendly staf, perfect for couples, clean beach with calm water, free babycoth
average breakfast, lots of stairs, not ideal for small children
Visited in oct 2009 with wife and children (2 years and 4 months). Enjoyed the atmosphere, nice scenery on the beach, clean rooms, good value for money. 15 minutes with taxi from chaweng center, not to many restaurants near hotel
Restaurant Tip : Near the hotel is a nice italian restaurant owned by a Italian who is married with a Thai. Excellent food for low price. Good value for money. Even Thai food is good.

Always friendly staff, cleanness (room and total resort), great pool directly to the beach, nice shuttle service to centre of Chaweng. Good food and drinks ofcourse at the poolbar !
not all the rooms have seeview ofcourse but i cant complain as the roomspace was nice. for seeview you have to pay extra like usual.
New Star resort is a renovation as the resort is there for more then 25 yrs. But trust me all the rooms are like new. The whole complex gives you an idea of having your holiday in a nature complex with some cottages/rooms well divided on the resort. You hear the smalls waterfalls around your room and see the sparkling water flowing. This gives you a wonderfull and relaxed feeling.
Will certainly come back next time when i will visit this part of Ko Samui!

Nice rooms, large bathroom, indoor/outdoor shower, high ceiling
location is not the most convenient
New Star is a great resort to get away. The Palm Rooms are nice, very clean. The rooms have a fantastic high ceiling. The bathrooms are large, with separate bath tub and shower. They even have an outdoor shower for each room.
The location is not the most convenient, but then again you are away from all the noises. It's about a good 15-20 min walk to the center of the town where all the restaurants are.
Overall, it was a great experience. Highly recommend.

The pool, beach, juxtaposition of the two to form one of the most beautiful views I've ever seen. The cottages, friendly staff, restaurant.
The library/lounge is stunning with the most stunning beach view and comfy couches.
Gorgeous design throughout the hotel.
A short taxi ride into town.
A short taxi ride to Tesco Lotus/the movies.
Close to beautiful beach restaurants.
The apartments, dingy and expensive.
The curtains in the cottage were paper thin and let in all the light.
The shuttle bus runs only once a day to town, needs to run more often.
The internet is very, very expensive.
No good for people with walking difficulties as there are lots of stairs all over the property.
Overall, magnificent and worth every penny, if you stay in the cottages.
Shopping Tip : Tesco Lotus is absolutely fantastic. Particularly good if the humidity's getting to you and you need to be in air conditioned comfort for a bit.

Staff is extremly friendly and helpful.
Excellent breakfast.
Construction at site next door goes on 7 days a week. However, little disturbing. Consider asking for room a further away from construction.
This hotel is great if you look for a location close to Chaweng but at some distance. Beach is very clean and not too shallow. Large swimming pool. Grounds are kept meticulous. Staff has great attitude, is very friendly and helpful. Internet access from room (wireless) at reasonable rates (700 Baht for 6 1/2 hours). Will stay here again on my next visit to Samui.
Hotel Feature Tip : Reliable car rental referral.

This hotel was very, very nice and a good value for the cost. The hotel area is beautiful and the staff is very helpful. The room was very large and quite pleasant..very modern. The staff took care of everything we really needed, including motor bikes, transport, etc.
I really didn't have much about the hotel that we didn't like. It's a late check-in..almost 2 or 3 PM before you are in the room. Since most flights from Bangcock arrive at 8 AM, this can be a long wait but they allow you to use a changing room to enjoy the beach while you wait. Room service good was just barely average, I would say.
I was very pleased with this hotel. The staff was very friendly and useful. The beach area is beautiful. The room was modern and large...served us very well. This hotel is completely relaxing...a great place for a get away. The hotel also arranged motor bikes for us and we went throughout the island. Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel in Sumai...very good.

-modern architecture, nice cosy feel
-outdoor shower, large bathrooms
-hotel sits directly on a nice beach, clear water
-beautiful gardens
-long hike uphill from beach & pool area to room
-pricey food
Me & my family planned this trip 4 months ago and NewStar didn't dissapoint us. I loved the whole feel of the architecture and room layout. I personally liked the outdoor shower and my wife enjoyed the fact the rooms are surrounded by well-kept gardens. We both loved the beach & the pool area. We didn't feel that the hotel was overcrowded even though it was high season. On the downside, we believe that the hotel should provide a buggy service to ferry people up and down the slope between the rooms and the beach area. Overall, we had a good holiday and we wouldn't mind coming to NewStar again the next time we go to Koh Samui.

Beware of Jellyfishes in the water.
Restaurant Tip : There's a cliff restaurant just further up the road. Great food. Great sunset view. A cheaper option would be Fair House restaurant on the beach.
