Accommodation is excellent; the standard of the villas is second to none. The addition of the private pool is a real luxury. Service is discreet and uniformly superb.

Food is really too expensive, even for a top class establishment. Given their push on the environment and CSR issues, I have ethical doubts on the exhorbitant mark up on food. I wonder what the local Thai workers think?

As a one off treat, the Six Senses is absolute paradise. Our villa was facing the sea, with its own pool. Extensive mini-bar, two beautiful bathrooms and about the most comfortable bed this side of heaven. The surround system is extraordinary, as is the mood lighting (which took a call to reception to work out). It is impossible to criticise the quality of accommodation. In addition, the hotel's infinity pool is a sight to behold; the spa is in the most stunning area of rainforest and the gym well equipped. Service is impeccable, sophisticated and discreet. This would be, to me, almost impossible to improve. However, I became increasingly disturbed over our stay by the mark up on food. This mattered, becuase my partner is Thai - and simply could not believe that we would spend as much IN ONE DAY, on lunch, dinner and couple of drinks (easily USD 400), as a Thai would spend in a month. Now - of course- I recognise that this is one of the world's best hotels, but when it's credentials are based on environmentalism, and a healthy, ethical attitide towards CSR, the mark up, struck me as excessive and potentially alienating towards the local community. (I didnt ask about the carbon footprint involved in delivering the European wine list). Its a small gripe - but I overheard other Europeans saying the same thing whilst relaxing at the stunning infinity pool. Its a pity, but we chose to hire a car and eat at the equally good local restarurants in Bophut.

Restaurant Tip : Hire a car and explore local fooderies. Also The Q Bar Lounge (offshoot of the famous Bangkok bar) is jaw dropping.

Great location if you don't want to be in the hustle and bustle of Chaweng town. Not too far from Chaweng and close to the airport. Best resort I stayed at in Thailand.

Restaurant Tip : Go where the food is recommended.

This is perfect if you are looking for a romantic getaway. You will seriously not want to leave your room nor will you have to as your every whim is catered for.

Restaurant Tip : If you want to save a little, rent a moped and go for dinner outside of the resort. There are some great restaurants and beachside places only two minutes away.
