Secluded luxurious hotel great for couples.
The hotel is on a private beach which means that to eat outside of the hotel you need to catch a taxi. Samui taxi drivers refuse to use the meter and trips out of the hotel can be quite expensive and leave a sour taste in your mouth.
Tongsai Bay is a perfect hotel for couples looking for a luxurious romantic getaway. We stayed in a Beachfront Suite which is the lowest class of room. Our room was enormous with bedroom, living area and a bathroom that was bigger than the entire room that we had at the Amari Palm Beach Resort in Chaweng (where we stayed earlier in our trip). Our balcony had a great view out across the pool to the beach and the sea. It had two sun beds, a table and chairs and a bath where you can relax staring out across the bay. I recommend requesting a room on the top floor as the sun beams onto these balconies allowing you to sunbathe on your balcony in the morning. The swimming pool is enormous and the beach boys regularly bring you iced water (much needed in Samui's searing heat). The hotel is set on its own private beach but is close enough to the other beaches to make it easy to get out in the evenings (provided you don't mind bargaining with Samui's immoral taxi drivers to get home). The restaurant on the beach (Floyd's) serves up amazing food all day long at reasonable prices and is a very nice romantic restaurant in the evenings. There are two other restaurants but we didn't try them. The Grand Villas are absolutely incredible (we asked to see one out of nosiness) - they have the best views in the resort and have private infinity pools, enormous terraces with outdoor bed and bathtub. I will definitely be returning to the Tongsai Bay Resort.

Everything (although this depends on what you want)
Nothing (although this depends on what you want)
We had an absolutely perfect experience for our honeymoon in a wonderfully private seafront cottage. The Tongsai bay was truly a memorable place. You are so close to nature, with many species of plants, lizards, birds so close, yet many luxuries are at your fingertips. The decoration, architecture, furnishings were high quality and evidence of good taste. No glitz or bling here, all understated elegance and in harmony with nature. The beach is not super soft sand and the water gets deep quick and there are waves... But we actually liked the beach and having a private beach on Samui is priceless. You can hire a kayak for free and check out other beaches nearby. If it's rainy, you can hire a DVD or play pool in the common room but you'll probably be having a bath on your private patio. That was simply fabulous! Service is excellent. Food options are plentiful and actually really good. And try the spa!
Hotel Feature Tip : If it is your honeymoon or anniversary, let them know and they will send a complimentary bottle of wine to your room.

nice services.
beautiful environment.
I have visited Tongsai Bay for several times. It's been very relaxing and beautiful environment. I like the way the hotel manage. I feel like home there. It's one of the best hotel in Samui. I strongly recommend this hotel to ones who like a laid-back vacation. P.S. Don't miss the breakfast..

Staff, service, privacy, location and facilities.
Breakfast coffee not the greatest.
Fab hotel, one of the best resorts ever stayed in, attentive staff, private location, wonderful facilites, great food, great pools, free Internet and amazing rooms and service. Wonderful gardens and wildlife also.
Hotel Feature Tip : Sea view cottage is worth paying extra for.

Swimming pool, and beach bar.
Very old fashioned, in need of a good renovation. I read fantastic reviews about this place, but I'm not sure I'll be back in a hurry.
This place gets rave reviews from many people, and I guess it's an Ok kind of place, but it just seemed a little worn out and like the staff were pretending that they worked in a 5-star hotel. It was always rated like Le Meridien, or Santiburi, but it just isn't. Too far to walk anywhere either with all the hills in the place. And the beach is super rocky too.

The service is top notch. We were well cared for at the restaurants and everywhere else on the resort. We liked the fact that it is a private beach and no vendors were there to hassle us. The pool is ok.
Although the room was renovated, I think only the bathroom and balcony were nice. The bath tub overlooking the beach is fabulous. Perfect place to relax in private. A little out of the way and expensive to get anywhere as you need to either rent a car or use the hotel taxi service. Taking a taxi back from anywhere costs more and they did not let us use the meter.

location, can not go to other restaurants or to Chaweng without taxi etc
Pricey resort but wonderful views and good restaurants, pool area very quiet and beautiful, excellent service at the pool. Not so good location, need transport to go anywhere else. Not possible to wander along the beach to other resorts or restaurants/ bars. Will come back again.

All in all we had a fabulous holiday. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful and the resort is undoubtedly beautiful. It would benefit from a bit of a facelift and some things are overpriced (the spa, the breakfast). The food definitely needs work - it was 2 star food in 5 star accommodation.

Private beach. Great food at ffloyd's restaurant. The friendly, helpful staff. Respect for surrounding wildlife. Beautiful accommodation. It's all good!
Not really any cons. You are very close to nature here. when you walk around the resort at night there is a bit of scurrying around your feet - lizards etc. which can be a bit of a shock at the start. But you do get used to this and actually learn to enjoy looking for the little critters!
We stayed at Tongsai Bay for our honeymoon March 08 and LOVED every minute of it! We got upgraded to a hillside cottage on arrival, and were given a bottle of champagne on our first night. The accommodation is very secluded. The cottage had an outdoor bath which overlooked the sea. Everything was very clean. fresh flower petals were put on the bed every day. The food at FFloyd's restaurant was fantastic! and not too pricey considering this is a resort. There are 2 other restaurants which are more expensive, for special occasions, but Ffloyd's food is so good with a nice atmosphere why pay more? You can get a taxi to Bo Phut for a few bhat if you want to go to a shop, restaurant or look around the fishing village. Diving tours also go from Bo Phut.
There is free use of kayak and free windsurfing lessons on the private beach. There is no jet-skiing near the private beach. This is a very eco-friendly resort. Fresh towels, water and shade are all provided my the beach staff who are very efficient. Definitely recommended for a romantic break, but there were also families enjoying the Tongsai Bay when we stayed there. There is a great pool for kids which is always supervised.
Look around on a few websites for deals.

Beautiful private beach, nice rooms
There are better Thai restaurants on the island
We have been to Tongsai Bay now for the fourth time - this says enough, I think!

Nightlife Tip : This is a chill out resort so don't expect a lot to do after dark but for 100 baht you can be in the middle of Chaweng beach.

When we booked this hotel, we didn't tell the hotel staff we were honeymooners.
But when during the stay, we told one member of the staff, they brought us a bottle of wine.
We were very happy and we also had a wonderful time.

Pick this hotel if you're looking for a relaxing, quiet holiday. It's very private and away from the busier Chaweng Beach.
Hotel Feature Tip : Take advantage of the Hotel provided airport service on checkout. They will shuttle you to the airport in a luxurious bus and even help you check in your baggage and get your boarding pass before you leave.
