Beautiful river view, helpful staff, hotel has a very open feel. No request was too hard for the staff
Smoking allowed in the air-conditioned restaurant. Children's play area needs revamping, as does the exercise area (most of the equipment is broken).
A beautiful hotel, located at (and in some flood years, in) the junction of two busy rivers. Our goal for this visit was to de-stress after a couple of hard months in our Phnom Penh jobs. This was certainly achieved. From the moment our boat docked and we were informed our rooms had been upgraded. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful, with no requests too difficult. Rooms well appointed and beautiful views of life on the river. Children played in the pool area for hours, and are easily supervised from the surrounding seats.
We had 1 bad meal. However, after consulting the staff they investigated fully with their cooks and agreed there was a problem, and gave good feedback to us. Well managed. We would like to see the dining room smoke-free as there are plentiful outdoor eating (or smoking) opportunities. Also, the hotel advertises a fitness center but this is not really functional. Chau Doc itself does not have a lot of attractions but, for us, the hotel and the river were enough for us for our 3 day stay.

*The View from the Room
*The Aura of Old Wealth in the Public Rooms
*Our Charming Room
*The Excellent Restaurant
The pool is small, but the setting is pretty.
The mood of being rich and privileged began when our public ferry from Phnom Penh pulled up to the Victoria's private dock first, allowing us to deboat before anyone else. From there we were welcomed into our beautiful room, with a huge wooden desk as big as a bed, original art, and welcoming robes and fruit basket. The view of the river from the colonial windows was magnificent. We never wanted to leave. Turn-down service included little cookies and candies. Breakfast on the patio was exceptional. When we left, we received a little souvenir of a silk bag in which our key had been presented.
Restaurant Tip : We went to the local "Mekong" restaurant across the road which was recommended in two guidebooks. We often eat in budget places happily, but the food was terrible--fish with an odd texture and the worst parts of the chicken. We ended up ordering a second meal at the Victoria which was delicious and served with style.
