We stayed at Essence Hanoi Hotel before and after our boat trip to Halong Bay and I must say this Hotel and Hanoi's Old Quarter was the highlight our Vietnam trip. The location is brilliant- we felt right at home in the thick of all the action in the Old Quarter (maybe not everyone's cup of tea). Once entering the hotel our Deluxe Suite (we were upgraded) was an oasis of quiet when we needed it with a balcony overlooking Hanoi. The room was fantastic. All the staff were amazing and very helpful with booking restaurants and giving sightseeing recommendations, We thoroughly enjoyed talking to everyone. Thank you for a great time!

an excellent hotel in the interesting old quarter of hanoi.young and old family members were relieved to retreat into the cool, quiet ambience, extra helpful staff and the welcome fruit drink.
we stayed for most meals including great buffet breakfast as it was good quality, service and ambience... soft music and drinks at reasonable prices...chardonnay good, blanc not so good, beer and gin cheap.
rooms perfect, room service fast and every member of the staff communicated super pleasantly in english and cared for the energetic 2 year old grandson.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Beware of aggressive taxi scammers. Use only hotel recommended 'Taxi Group' or 'Min lieh'.

A terrific little hotel in the middle of Hanoi hustle and bustle. The staff were always cheery and helpful. The manager walked with me to a pharmacy to help with language difficulties when I was trying to buy activated charcoal for my partners stomach trouble.
Breakfasts were great with quite a wide range of foods to choose from. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We had an interconnecting room at the beginning the only negative being that it had no view. On our return from Ha Long Bay the gave us 2 rooms on the top floor. These had views over the city which we preferred.

The Ethnic Museum is a bit boring. Ho Chi Minh Museam is really interesting

Central location in the old city. Boutique style Hotel. Good food. Spotlessly clean. Very helpfull staff.

excellent location in the old city yet not too far (5 minutes)from the hoan kiem lake.
stayed at this hotel on two occaisions with a week between visiting other areas in north vietnam.
hotel can arrange all types of excursions and very efficient.
has it's own 12 seater bus which was used for the airport trip on completion of holiday.
make sure your hanoi vist includes the ho chi minh mausleum complex and the museum plus the army museum and the hanoi hilton prison are also recommended.

This was my 5th visit to Hanoi, and of all the places I have stayed at, this was the best in terms of value for money, service, location, the staff really go out of their way to make it a memorable stay, I wish they had a small meeting room available on the first floor that would be very useful. Some rooms have windows which face a very pleasantly decorated wall, but this did not bother me as I don't spend much time in the room anyway. also outstading was the arranged pick up from and to the airport which I strongly recommend for iniexperienced travellers to Hanoi.

Fabulous Hotel

I have stayed in several Elegance Hotels, and this was another up to the same standard. This is really 5 star service at 3 star price. The staff cannot do enough for you. the breakfast is very good, the location perfect in the old city. On the downside - my room was on the top floor which mean walking up the last flight of stairs. It was so hot up there that we had to leave the aircon on while we went out, otherwise it was like walking into a furnace. Much better lower down the hotel, so try to avoid floor 8! Other than that, the rooms are not huge, but quite adequate and comfortable. I would stay there again.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
the Ho chi Minh mausoleum is worth a visit. Very wierd.

Our arrival date to Essence hotel also my wife's birthday. I want to give my wife a surprise so I email Essence hotel to arrange a birthday cake in the room. The manager said ok and charge USD15 for that. I think the price of USD15 is fair enough considering I wouldn't get any good cake even spending in Australia.
When we arrive and open the door I was surprise that they don't only put a cake in the room but go extra miles to decorate the room with balloon, bed full of red & yellow rose petals, "happy birthday" arranged out of banana leaves, birthday card with birthday wishing and candle/lighter ready to go. It was so beautiful and we were touched by their attention to details.
I thought usd15 will only get them to put a cake in the room but with all these details decoration this is what I called service to the extreme!
Well done Essence!
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Many traveller arrive from Sapa to Hanoi by train very early in the morning (at round 4.30am to 5.30am). When you take taxi to the hotel you booked most probably the hotel front door is still locked and everywhere is dark. My tip is don't walk away but knock on the front door, every hotel in old quarter will have a staff sleep close to the front door, he/she will wake up to open the door for you!

Highly recommend this hotel for your stay in Hanoi, perfect location in the old quarter in Hanoi. Rooms above average and super comfortable. Staff could not be more helpful with all requests. Would stay there again without hesitation.

I have never had better service in a hotel in Australia or overseas. In particular, reception staff could not do enough for you and with a smile at all times, at the same time being genuine. Rooms are great, location is great, breakfast is great,,,what else needs to be said,,,,if going to Hanoi, stay at the Essence. Bonus as well, have a meal in the restaurant during your stay.
Nightlife Tip:
Skip round the corner to Geckos for a cheap meal and the cheapest beer around, 10K Dongeroos for a bottle of Tiger.
