We were reasonably happy with this hotel although we got off to a bad start. We had arranged for a transfer from the airport as there was five of us but it did not turn up and we had to make alternative arrangements. This was a little disconcerting as the driver attempted to take us to a different hotel altogether. We had also booked a tour to Halong Bay the following day and asked one of Lake View's staff to confirm it. This was done apparently, but the van never turned up. The hotel then offered to book us another tour ($15 dearer than the original) which we felt we had no option but to accept. On return, we went to the original operator's office (we had paid a $100 deposit) and they told us we had not confrimed, but then, conflictingly, said we weren't there when they came. Don't really know what happened, but were, perhaps unfairly, a little suspicious of the hotel. Everything else fine.
comfortable rooms, good breakfast, pleasant surroundings and friendly staff
more information re taxis, tours etc
- Hotel Feature Tip : Check with the staff the names of the only two taxi companies to use that have an honest meter or you will be greatly overcharged.

Having read the previous reviews of this hotel, my expectations of the hotel was rather high. However, I was more than a little disappointed by the condition of the hotel and service from the hotel staff.
Mind you, the staff are friendly and always helpful but I think they lack proper organizational skills, so the front desk is chaotic during check-in or check-out. I was rather shock to discover that they wanted to check-in another guest into our rooms during our stay there!
The City View Deluxe rooms were decent but has room for further improvements. Suggest you spent a little more and stay in the Lake View rooms, they are much better than the City View rooms. I suspect most guests would be happier.
Good location, next to a lake and park. convenient.
Lift only goes to 3rd floor, beyond that, guests have to take the stairs. Not too friendly for the elderly guests. F&B selection can be improved. Front desk staff are very disorganized.
- Hotel Feature Tip : Take only the Lake View rooms, the city view rooms are not in such a good condition.

As a boutique hotel, it is excellent. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is simple and adequate. Location wise, not so ideal. Its quite far from the old quarters and you need to take a taxi everytime you go out. The normal taxi fare to the old quarters is 35,000 Dong. However, when we took a taxi back in the evening from the old quarters, the taxi meter register a fare of 50,000 Dong! Same distance travelled!
If you want peace and quite, this is the hotel for you.
Nice cosy hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff. You will feel at ease here.
A little far from the Old Quarters. Need to take taxi every time you go out. Not much to see around the hotel.

From this room at the front side, we had a nice view on the lake, a nice balcony, and the insulation of the windows at the street side was good enough to dim the street noise.
The hotel is not in the old city, we had to walk for about 15-20 minutes to get there.
Not much choice for breakfast.
- nice view
- not too busy street
- no disco in the house!
- situated a bit far from old city
- breakfast a bit poor for westerners
- Travel tip : Warning: I would book tours with the the travel agent in the hotel. He sold tours at a much exaggerated price (almost double than anywhere else)!
friendly but not good

When I was in Hochiminh City, I stayed in Chancery Saigon Hotel with the same price. Chancery was really good for this price and I expected this hotel comparable to Chancery. But it was not. The room is small, the staff is not trained well, the breakfast is poor. I also use the laundry service but my trousers was lost.
Clean room, friendly staff.
Small room, nonprofessional staff.

Although the hotel has been up dated physically the running of it hasn't. It has the potential, but needs a completely different management style to be a winner. Currently I would not go back. For example lovely bathroom with power jet shower. Get out and expect to grab big fluffy towel and get very thin old one. Bed looks good but it has to be the hardest bed I have ever slept in and I like a hard bed. Pillows were very bouncy - I kept falling off them. The biggest problem was our passports. We arrived and handed them in. We were told we could have them in half an hour. Went to ask for them to be told that they were not ready and to go back in an hour. Did so and they were not ready and were offered them to get money but had to hand them back when we returned. Declined this to help the process and went out. Returned and this is now 3 hours later. Asked for passport and told it would be ready in half an hour. Went back in half an hour now somewhat concerned. I was told I couldn't have our passports until the next day. Having stayed at the Elegance 3 who took 5 minutes to process the passports I became somewhat alarmed so said I wanted them several times as I kept being told I couldn't have them. Then an older brother came to reception and said I could have them and in less than 3 minues they had been checked. I watched the lad do it - all he checked was our names. So why take so long? Breakfast was a truly help yourself. Nothing was offered at the table as one would expect coffee and tea to be. We got on with it as the famiy got on with their tasks. The fabric of the hotel suggests a 3 star but the way it is run is still in 1 star. They have not taken a leap to attract the business community who they wish to attract. This hotel needs the Hotel Inspector to kick it into the good hotel it could be. There are snagging issues that have not been addressed ie our bathroom room leaked water from it.
View from room of lake very good.
Very good refurbishment. They have just reopened.
Hard bed and I like a hard bed!
Room was purchased on hotel web site as a luxury suite. It was a large 2 king bed room at the front of the hotel with balcony. description not accurate. Very bouncy pillows - I kept falling off them
management is not up to the quality of the refurbishment.
reopened with same team running it who do not know how to deal with the cliental they now wish to attrct with the refurb.
- Restaurant Tip : Go to Sam Ho a brilliant fish restaurant.

I stayed in "suite city view" room, but the room has only one standard-size bedroom and shower room. I think it should be called "sperior" room. I also have a chance to see another room, which are even smaller than my room. The staff is friendly but is far from what the hotelmans shuold be. Every time I went down to the ground floor, the staff play a bit loudly with each other. The breakfast is also disappointed. The buffet style breakfast only has 4 or 5 dishes.
I think this hotel is clean and not so bad but you should not expect too much.
room is clean
breakfast is poor
staff is not trained well

Booked a tour through the hotel only to find out i was paying more than double then the rest of the group. When I returned to the hotel the tour desk was mysteriously empty with no one returning that day. I have also been charged 3 months later when the AUS dollar has dropped so they are still managing to steal my money!
Staff are friendly
