My worst mistake.

It was a difficult task to select a medium priced hotel in Hanoi because no one seem to transmit confidence, and staying at Indochina, I understood why.
Staff was unfriendly from the very beginning. We had no specific conflict, but I never felt I was welcome in tehir house.
We had a 'deluxe' room, which meant we had a window to the street. But according to the street noise from 5 AM, I'm not sure that's a real bennefit. Room was really small. Bathroom was even smaller (in relative terms). I'm not a very tall guy (1'80 m) and sitting in the toilet I couldn't find a way not to smash my knees against the wall in front of me. Bed clothes and towels were anything but clean. Paper-thin walls provided a very interesting range of noises during the night. Room smell was disgusting.
Hotel facilities were far from clean. Specially at the elevator in which I'd avoid to climb not to have to smell it for the 4 floors I had to go up-down.
I can't honestly tell about breakfast. After such a wonderful night, the last thing I could do in that place was to eat.
I really can't find a single one.
Not even close to clean.
Noisy.
Unfriendly staff.
- Nightlife Tip : Beware of the night in the surroundings.
Around 10PM the streets are crowded and give a feeling of safety that make you feel confident and forget all warnings you've heard of, but after 11PM everyone dissapears and walking to the hotel is a high risk adventure.
We thought the reception guy was joking when he asked us at what time we planned to return 'so that I know when I have to worry and call the police', but we had a real bad time to walk back at 11.30 PM the 4 blocks we had gone to look for an internet cafe.
very good service

Had a good time in Hanoi, frantic city, millions of motorbikes but good experience. Would recommend this hotel for the good location in the old citadel. Tours to visit Sapa or Halong Bay can also be booked at the hotel. The room was very clean and espacious with a mini bar and computer linked to internet, very convenient.
Good location in old town, clean room, friendly staff
Noisy outside, hard bed, basic breakfast
- Shopping Tip : lots of shops in the area
This is an alright place

As booked on Agoda, got room with no window, though they did offer to move us the following night. Was smell of drains in the room. Breakfast was from 7 - 10. The earliest we got up was at 9, but at that stage the tea an all the previously hot food was cold. There was flies all around on the open food, and no fresh tea or coffee was offered to us when we sat down. Worst was we booked a taxi to the airport. For a private taxit it was $15, which we paid at reception. When we got to the airport the driver pulled loads of faces and basically said the hotel had not paid him that amount so we felt obliged to pay him more. Had heard about this scam in passing, maybe another review, beware!
- Restaurant Tip : Try the savory crepes in La Place just down the street!
will not recommend it

- Travel tip : Very good french restaurant close to the hotel called Cafe des Amis and skip the breakfast at the hotel and have nice coffee and croissants at the French Deli opposite the Church nearby.
