Every time an Agoda customer checks out of a hotel we send them an email asking them to write a review of their stay. This is the only way reviews can be submitted. Every review must then be approved by our content team before being posted on the Agoda website. Therefore, unlike many other travel sites, ALL Agoda reviews are certified and genuine.

Great hotel with homely atmosphere
Friendly and helpful staff
8.3
When in Hanoi I always choose to stay at Mai Hotel. All of the staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and well appointed. I arranged early check-in(7am) and was upgraded to a bigger room. Breakfast is self serve with many choices and good coffee. Highly recommended. Location is on the edge of the old district, not so noisy in the mornings. An easy walk to the mausoleum and museum precinct.

Upon arrival our booking was confirmed and we were very lucky to be upgraded to a suite complete with sauna and living room FOC. We were provided with a welcome drink of our choice and then one of the staff sat down with us and took us through a map of the local area pointing out the various points of interest and providing us with a lot of useful information. Complementary in room drinks were provided and all processes and breakfast times etc were explained to us in detail. We stayed in the suite for our 2 night stay and really enjoyed our time with Mai Hotal. It is very central to all the tourist attractions within Hanoi which was great for exploring the area on foot as well as by taxi. The breakfast was decent but could have done with a bit more selection.

Expected a bit more courtesy of at least an extra matress in our room when we had booked the room for 3 persons and they gave only a double room.
However the hotel was near to happening backpacker street and had to use the hotel for only one night.

Great location of hotel in the old quarter, however we were disappointed with the service of the hotel as well as the overall room size and cleanliness. There was one staff member who went above and beyond and gave us a map with key places to visit she was very helpful the other staff were quite unhelpful. When booking we ticked airport transfer which we received no confirmation about. On arrival a man was waiting to pick us up, however he could not tell us the price. In the end the hotel charged us more then it would of cost taking a pre paid cab. Water in the hotel fridge cost over $1 a bottle which is a lot in Vietnam. It also took over 1/2 to check in. We had to wait in the lobby without any explanation as to why is was taking too long there was also no one else waiting so it was not like it was busy. It wasn't a great experience and with there being so many in the same area I would not recommend Mai Hotel nor would I stay here again. The rooms look nothing like the pictures and are very unkempt.

Ok hotel, some amenities need improvement

I am comparing it against the hotel in saigon i stayed of the same price.
Reception is generally the best part of the hotel. General deco is a bit grotty, they would look much better without the fancy wallpaper. Soap in bathroom is the lowest quality type. The shower height in bath tub is too low. Breakfast selection was less than the hotel in saigon.
Nevertheless, for the price they charged, its still very good in value.
Restaurant Tip:
There are two "cha ca" restaurant which serve speciality grilled fish, which is damn delicious. They charge usd8 per pax.

Good location but terrible service and rooms

Wouldn't recommend staying here. We had two bookings and both went terribly. Rooms were unclean and old. Not a well kept hotel at all.

Gaudy but Elegant hotel
Big room, clean, and friendly reception

We stayed in the Silver room luxury apartment.
Shower was spoilt. But everything else was perfect. It came with a Sauna as well. Which was great
Room was gigantic and spacious. With 2 TV's.
It's too big for a couple. But if you feel like splurging. Then go for it.
Other than that, hotel is on the edge of Old Quarter. Walkable to Ho Chi Minh Maseuleum or the french quarter.
Not the best location.
but there's a kfc next door.
which is probably the only fast food shop in the whole of the Old Quarter.
