A comfortable and friendly hotel
Situated in a quiet part of the old district

We have stayed in this hotel earlier this year and found that it had deteriorated a little. The rooms appeared a bit old and worn and the breakfast was not up to the previous high standard. The staff were cheerful and helpful and spoke good english. Located in a quiet part of the old district and an easy walk to the mausoleum and museums. Overall a satisfactory stay.
Restaurant Tip:
Across the street from the hotel is a lady cooking and selling street food; spring rolls, meat balls, salad and noodles. $2.50. Highly recommended.

Great room with nice decoration

We stayed at the same hotel after came back from Halong Bay. The hotel upgraded our room from Junior Suite to Rolls-Royce apartment room. The Rolls-Royce room is very big with two rooms but we only have two persons. We don't like the room's decoration and requested to change back to Junior Suite on the second day. The staff is good and willing to satisfy us. The junior suite comes with a window but not near to the main road, there is quiet and we can have a sound sleep.
Restaurant Tip:
There is several of local food and restaurant around the hotel area.

Cheap hotel with nice room decoration

We stay a night at the superior room before departed to Halong Bay. The room is exactly like shown in the picture. The room is well decorated but the room area is rather small. Although written on the website that the room can fit 2 persons, the bed was too small just like a super single bed. We liked the room to have balcony that can watch the road-sight but the vehicle honk is annoying until late night around 1am and it started early morning at 4am again!

Great room, I was offered a choice of rooms all of which were really nice. The staff were always friendly and smiley. And the breakfast was great!

Second stay at this hotel and whilst we werent upgraded this time our room was more then adequate. comphy bed, hot shower and overall cleanliness.

Perfect base to explore Hanoi, Excellent staff

My Partner and I stayed here for 1 night as we were spending the rest of our time in Northern Vietnam at Halong Bay. We were upgraded as soon as we arrived to the suite on level floor known as the silver room. It was almost to big but the extra room welcomed. The room was clean and the bed was comphy.
We also needed to book our Halong Bay cruise and due to previous hotel tour desks crappy service we were going to not even bother booking through Mai Hotel. We asked a few questions and we were shown a variety of cruises. We ended up taking a deal that they had showed us and we were more then impressed with the cruise. We were impressed with the hotel and its location that we decided to stay for our final night in hanoi before flying back to Australia.
+++ Hotel, highly recommended, Great Price.
Only thing I could complain about was the pretty poor breakfast. I wouldn't say it spoilt my stay though as I would prefer a fresh bowl of Pho from outside for 1 USD anyway.
