My friend and I stayed at the Rising Dragon for two nights. It was so nice. Clean rooms, really nice breakfast and the staff were super nice. Hotel helped us book a tour to Halong Bay and train tickets to Danang! They were so helpful. I would definetly recommend this hotel to any other travellers!

Great Service from excellent switched on staff
Attention to detail by staff for our needs was more than expected

the hotel was in a side street perhaps away from a more popular area, however, the staff were amazing. we were sat down at a table in the lobby and provided with a map as to the area, cautioned regarding safety re pickpockets etc, referred to a list of their chain of hotels if we got into any trouble in hanoi, advised not to hail a cab from the street, but either get a hotel or restaurant to telephone a cab due to unscrupulous operators on the streets etc.
the down side is that the room safe was quite useless - firstly because it wasn't bolted down and i could pick it up and walk out of the room and the setting of the combination was a little complicated. i decided that whatever valuables i had were safer on my body.
the hot water was barely above room temperature even though i switched on the hot water system in the room a half hour prior to my shower whereas i was told that 5 minutes would be sufficient.

Clean hotel in Hanoi Old Quarter
Bedding were nice crisp cotton
9.3
We were given breakfast upon our early train arrival from Sapa. Although we arrived early in the morning, the staff assured us that they will check us in as soon as a room is available. The hotel was running full but their sincere efforts was not wasted on us.
Shopping Tip:
Make price comparisons at the various shops before making a purchase. The price varies greatly from shop to shop. Oil paintings by local artists are a good buy.

We only stayed one night, plus resting and picking up laundry upon return from Halong Bay in the afternoon, but the staff was exceptional for a hotel in this class.
Our room was more cramped than anything pictured, but I believe this was largely due to a confusion in the booking that we needed a twin room, so they made a quick change. They were accommodating and friendly about this.
The location is not right in the center of the Old Quarter, but it's good and everything is walkable. Still, the Rising Dragon 3 is on a small street and both times that we took a taxi, the driver got confused. Have the hotel's phone number handy, or better yet, turn-by-turn directions on your phone -- if you're in Vietnam for more than a few days, a SIM card with 3G service is very reasonable.
The wifi in our room was sadly unusable so we had to go down to the lobby/restaurant to get anything done. Another guest on a floor far below ours said the same about the wifi on their floor.

Very Friendly and Helpful Staff in good location!
clean rooms, well located and friendly staff
6.7
we rented a twin room, arriving on a misty day in November.
from the get go there was confusion with the taxi driver from the airport. although we showed him a map of where the hotel was located he still took us to the wrong "rising Dragon Hotel", as there is at least three of the same name and franchise as the one we booked in Hanoi. Luckily they're pretty close to each other so you can walk to the correct one.
the receptionist and hotel workers were always very polite, helpful and friendly. the room we were in was cosy, a tad on the small side but due to the size and shape of the building and those in Hanoi i don't think they could avoid this.
our first hotel in our trip in vietnam, making it a good and enjoyable start to the rest of our trip.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
the Perfum Pagoda "day" trip is listed as arriving back at 16:30. we actually arrived back at 7pm due to traffic and weather. make sure you don't have any flights/trains booked at this time. many tourists had to jump on motorbike taxis in a desperate ploy to make it to their next destination.
