Lovely hotel with lots of character and nostalgia
beautiful and old hostorical building, great spa, very romantic
8.7
My boyfriend and I stayed in Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi Hotel for a total of 4 days and loved it. While it's certainly not a cheap hotel, it's one where you get your money's worth. The service and staff were impeccable and everything from the live jazz every evening in the hotel bar to the L'Occitane-branded toiletries made our stay pampered and looked-after. There were chocolate every night and a paper in the morning. We stayed in both the old and the new wings and I would recommend those who like those who like a huge bathtub to stay in the old wing as it was the biggest and nicest hotel bathtub I've ever been in!
Restaurant Tip:
The hotel's breakfast was so so, I wouldn't exactly recommend it for anything other than convenience, but their Bamboo Bar with pool view was great for a late night drink.

a surprisingly lovely long weekend retreat
beautiful colonial decoration, comfortable room
9.7
we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the hotel, especially because the raining season just kicked in, we felt very much at home when we were back in the hotel after a long day exploring (in the rain for the first day). this is certainly one of our highlights during the three days' visit in hanoi. a good mixture of restaurants are nearby, luxury, fast food chain or the street food. markets are not far away, and plenty art galleries around for some culture walks! we will definitely head back soon.

Luxurious hotel in a great location
Lots of bars and restaurants within the hotel
9.7
Perhaps more suited to couples. The hotel had a romantic feel. Although I was traveling alone. Still, I was quite happy to try out the bars and many restaurants. very expensive compared to other hotels in the area. Very luxurious however.

omg!!
French colonial ambience, impeccable service, exceeds expectations
9.7
this place is just amazing. when you walk through the front doors (always opened instantly as you move towards them), from the "bonjour madame" greeting by the beautifully dressed staff, you have stepped back in time to the french colonial era. it is such fun playing at being back in those times. the sun loungers around the pool don't just have towels, they have a vietnamese-style hat and a bell to call for the staff so they can meet your every need! the staff are not deferential, though. they are extremely polite and attentive, but friendly and fun too. we returned later in our trip and the pool attendant recognised us and greeted us like long lost friends! the hotel is beautifully renovated to evoke past times so accurately, and yet renovated to the highest modern standard. there is every attention to quality and detail - even the bathroom toiletries are l'occitane! our only warning is that everything purchased in the hotel is extremely pricey - you can go for breakfast at any other top hanoi hotel for about half the price - but then again, if you're staying here, why not soak it all up, dining in their beautiful restaurant too?
Hotel Feature Tip:
Take care when selecting room type, as it is not clear from the name. "Luxury" room is in the original old hotel - complete with creaky floorboards, shuttered windows to the street etc. "Premium" is in the new wing. Bigger rooms, and with a strong French look (but just not the same!!)

Excellent Hotel
A five star location with all offerings at top level
9.3
We stayed in the so-called New Wing on the 5th floor and also joined the Hotel Club for the duration of our stay. Everything about the hotel was excellent in our view - that includes the reception, the staff, the room, the service, the Club and the food. Given that Hanoi does not rate highly on our list of international destination cities - it was quite difficult to leave the place and venture into the crowded streets.
Hotel Feature Tip:
Try the a la carte breakfast selections in the Club restaurant

I love the big window in the room and the situation is good becoz it is near ga ha noi. I come back from Sapa and stay in this hotel it is really a good idea.
Hotel Feature Tip:
Swimming is not too big but the staff will provide tower, futile n drink when u enjoying the sunshine, so sweet!

Beautiful historic hotel
Absolute luxury with character
10
My family - being my husband, 14 year old daughter, 11 year old son and me, stayed four nights in the historic wing of the Metropole Hotel. It was a gorgeous experience. My son and I arrived first at 4 o'clock in the morning - off the train from Danang. Although this was clearly much earlier than the usual check in time a room was made available to us and we were offered something to eat at the complimentary 'night buffet' which was hugely appreciated. The rooms are beautiful. The difference between the Metropole and other 5 star hotels is that this hotel has character and charm. You can feel the presence of Somerset Maugham and Graham Greene. The location is good - an easy walk the the old town and lake. Staying at the Metropole was a delight.

This hotel is like stepping back in time
The timeless beauty and luxury served with a smile
10
the old part of the hotel which we opted to stay in has been beautifully restored and maintained but with all the modern conveniences down to the last detail. the staff are very warm and friendly and there is a choice of many restaurants and eating places both indoor and outdoor. the hotel is situated near a park and not to far from the lake and the old french quarter.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
It is worthwhile to visit the different museaums and mausoleum the country is steeped in history. A tour is probably the best way to tackle this.
