The service and the location
10
This is unquestionably the best hotel in Vietnam. Excellent service, great French restaurant and unique bar. The location is also ideal, near all the main sightseeing points. The service is topnotch. We forgot some clothes but thehotel was able to send someone to meet us at the airport to deliver them to. This is clearly well "above the call of duty "
Hotel Feature Tip:
Get a room in the historic wing. They remind you of the French colonial days

This is the #1 hotel in Vietnam. Excellent service: we forgot some clothes when checking out, the hotel sent a person to the airport to deliver them to us before our flight left. It is also well located, within walking distance to major shops and sightseeing points. Be sure to get a room in the historical side of the hotel. It has unique european charms.

A legendary hotel in a fine location.
Beautiful layout and great pool area
8.7
We liked the Metropole but were not overwhelmed. The staff was especially attentive at check in, but fell off after that. We were also disappointed that breakfast was not included, since it had been in all our other hotels. Having said that, the pool area and the bars were quite nice. Clearly the Metropole is a fine hotel.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
By all means take a walking tour of the old town. it is loaded with historically imporatnat sites and little cafes. We enjoyed a cafe on the lake quite a lot.

Paradise
Fabulous staff, gorgeous facilities, wonderful restaurants
9.7
In 40 years of travel, I have never stayed in a hotel with customer service at this level,
The staff make you feel pampered, anticipate your needs, and fulfill them. When we arrived from a most unpleasant train journey from Sapa (disheveled at 5 am) we were offered a complimentary room in which to shower and rest until
Breakfast was available. This hotel is worth ever penny.
Hotel Feature Tip:
Eat at the Spices garden restaurant for wonderful fusion food.

Awesome hotel. One of the best hotels I have stayed at. Impeccable service, elegant luxurious design, and great location to explore the city. Will definitely stay there again!
Hotel Feature Tip:
Do the complimentary hotel bomb shelter tour.

Old luxury charm
The old colonial luxury side of Hanoi
9.3
we live in hanoi and use metropol as our local getaway for drinks, lunches and minibreaks. it is the hotel in hanoi. i stayed in many others and they are just hotels.
do spend at least one night here. and do go out, walk and smile to people. the real hanoi begins just outside metropol.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
B-52-wreck. Visit both during day and night. Daytime it's lively area, small temples, safe and surreal. During night time it's the quietest place in Hanoi, very bizarre. I drink beer there next to the wreck with locals. Words are not enough to describe it.

Great hotel and perfect location
9.3
Great hotel in the perfect location for exploring Hanoi. Wish we cuold have stayed for longer. The hotel is perfectly located on the doorstep of the Old Quarter - a great start for exploring the city by foot. Staff were incredibly friendly and always keen to help. We stayed in the historical wing, worth the small extra room charge for a feel of a bygone era. Opted to have breakfast in the hotel for convenience and to save time for sightseeing - usual hotel buffet, am sure thatt there are more authentic options nearby as alternatives.

Lovely Historic Hotel in the heart of Hanoi
Great service, lovely/clean rooms, luxury experience

This is a lovely hotel. This is our second stay at the hotel. We stayed over Christmas holidays. The festive menu at Le Beaulieu was delicious and they also had a pretty decent vegetarian menu even if it did feature a lot of soup. There were carol singers and Father Christmas doing the rounds around the hotel which really helped with the festive feeling. The hotel was beautifully decorated though full of loud Americans recanting their travel stories for the whole room to hear. Useful if you are looking for travel tips, less so if you are trying to chill out.
The Club facilities are really worthwhile and a good investment. The food isn't as good as some places but pretty decent. Plus the Club service whilst impeccable the first time wasn't as amazing with a desperate bid to get a pot of tea for breakfast one morning. I think I had to wait 30 mins after 6 requests to the waiting team. It could have been that they busy as it was the busiest we have ever seen the Club facilities.
Angelica, the Italian restaurant isn't the best feature of the hotel. The food is ok but overpriced and the setting isn't as lovely as the rest of the hotel.
The butler was really lovely and helped us get tickets to the water puppet show at short notice and answered our questions. I forget his name but he was a real credit to the hotel.
The location is great, 5min walk to the lake, close to the opera theatre, lovely walks around the hotel and very close to the old quarter.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Touring around the Old Quarter:
The electric vehicle is slightly quicker and less frightening weaving through the old quarter but the rickshaws are definitely more authentic and the slightly scary fear of being pushed out into the traffic is actually part of the experience. Definitely a great way to observe everything going on as when walking around it you can't really stop and take it in.
