Beautiful hotel but disappointed with some staff.

This is a wonderful old hotel however some staff seem to have an attitude problem because they work here & forget it is the guests they are meant to be looking
after. Some staff were excellent & others were not. This hotel could clearly learn a lesson from the wonderful staff at the Sofitel Plaza in Hanoi, where the staff were all so helpful, polite & courteous.

I would most especially like to commend the concierge for being very helpful and knowledgeable. He was able to address our queries and concerns superbly with a genuine smile on his face. I was also impressed with the reception staff as the one who attended to us could converse in fluent French. We thought that it would be easier to converse in French than English, but turns out he was also very fluent in English, which isn't a norm. The rooms were spacious, very clean, and the ambiance was just absolutely perfect. There's so much history and beauty and culture in this hotel. The restaurants and bars are also excellent. Great food, great dining experience. Diane Witherspoon was singing for us when we had a bottle of wine. I would definitely come back to stay at this hotel again. 5 stars and more!

Perfect end to a wonderful holiday!

Extremely pleasant stay overall. Staff are fluent in English. Bellmen were helpful but some were not particularly friendly. Concierge was very good at answering out queries, giving us great directions and even a great recommendation to buy fruit to bring home from their local wholesale fruit market! Received a surprise birthday cake as they picked the detail up from my passport - great attention to detail! Hotel tour incl the recently re-discovered hotel bomb shelter was very interesting and free for inhouse guests. Hotel experienced some electricity failure on the morning of our last day which strangely knocked out the cold water supply too - but it was resolved in an hour or so.
