I stayed at the Thang Long Opera Hotel for 5 nights in November 2009. The hotel in general was ok and provide the basic needs during my stay. The room is clean and the air-conditioning unit was working properly. The bath room is also clean. The breakfast is quite nice.

The hotel uses conventional key to open/lock the door. This is not a secure hotel. Another weak point is that, the TV is very old and the reception is very bad. Although they provide many channels to view, I ended up had only one channel I could watch.

The hoetl provides basic needs for someone like me who was on a business trip (conference) to Hanoi. It has zero extra service provided. The room area is small however sufficient for me, as I left the room in the morning after breakfast, and return late in the evening, just to sleep there. Occasionally, during my 5 nights stay, they forgot to give the bottled water, or the bathroom mat. Otherwise, the room was well cleaned and suitable for comfortable sleep. The breakfast is quite ok and they provide the Vietnamese noodle, called pho, at breakfast. The juice and coffee were not good in particular. One advice in staying in Hanoi, is to get a local SIM card which can be used on your mobile phone. This saves your calling charge if you need to call someone often. About th etaxi in Hanoi, always call the Hanoi Taxi. Other taxi companies are not as good as the Hanoi Taxi, and their taxi meters are manipulated to run a bit faster. The normal rate is about 10 thousand VND for 1 KM distance on taxi. if you found the taxi meter runs too fast, stop the taxi, get off and get another one.

Restaurant Tip : I went to this restaurant, called Quan An Ngon at 18 Phan Boi Chau, Quan Hoan Kiem, Hanoi. The food was nice and the price is very reasonable. You may like to have a try there for the evening meal. The queue is rather long, so go there a bit early.

The hotel is situated in a good location. It is within walking distance to the Old Quarters and yet it is a little bit further away. The Airport Shuttle also stops at this hotel.

The hotel should have a safe deposit box in the guest room.

The hotel is quite ideally located. It is wihin walking distance to the centre of activities and yet a bit further away so you don't get so much noise like motor-cycles honking, etc. Their buffet breakfast is also quite good with both vietnamese food and western food. Their rooms are also quite spacious and clean. All in all its quite a good hotel.

Hotel Feature Tip : The airport shuttle stops at this hotel and also can pick you up from this hotel. You can book your ticket to the airport at the hotel lobby.

Hanoi's city centre is very noisy - the constant flow of traffic and beeps from the vehicles can drive you crazy. The location of Thang Long is tucked away from all that noise yet near enough to walk to the city centre. Just a few minutes walk to Hoan Kiem Lake, the interesting shops are skirting around that area. I stayed with my family in a suite for 3 adults and the room was of comfortable size and is clean. Staff were polite and they will help you call a reliable taxi to when you need one.

The only issue we had was that the cleaners do not knock on doors before coming in to the room. So had to latch the door.

Overall, it's a pleasant stay and the location is great - away from the noise from the main road and there is little traffic flowing through. It was a comfortable and pleasant stay and the buffet spread was good. Staff were pleasant and spoke English and were helpful. Will certainly stay there again should i go to Hanoi for a holiday.

The hotel is located along a quite street, walking distance from the Opera House and Sword Lake. Room was clean and bathroom was ok. Its the only hotel that has a pick-up point for the airport shuttle bus.

No in-room safe Room key is not electronic/card based - so you need to carry around the key with a bulky key chain.

The hotel is reasonably priced, given its location and facilities. The ameneties are within expectations of a 3 star rated hotel. This hotel is also suitable for families on a budget as there's no seedy activities within or near the hotel. However, I do not recommend keeping any valuable in the room when you're out because of the room locks are still using traditional keys. The breakfast (buffet) is adequate, with a mix of local and western items on the spread.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : You can walk (less than 5 minutes) to the Sword Lake, Opera House and Water Puppet Theatre.

Central location, reasonably quiet street [for Hanoi], spacious room, internet access.

The room I stayed in was clean but in need of renovation.

The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. For my initial stay the room was clean but in need of renovation. On return to the hotel after a weekend away, the room allocated was newly decorated.

Shopping Tip : Walking distance to major shoping centres and old quarter.

Quiet and nice neighbourhood, near to business centre, and banks. Eateries and cafes nearby and within walking distance to Opera, French Quarter and Old Quarter.

The hotel needs an upgrade as the rooms are old and dated. Need additional F&B facilities and improvement to the lobby layout.

The hotel is convenient if you are doing business nearby as it is close to the heart of the city and not too far from the Hoan Kiem Lake. There are sufficient restaurants and cafes in the vicinity and very near to the Opera. The hotel rooms are small and despeately needing an upgrade especially the bathroom. Breakfast spread is good and they even pack the breakfast when I need to rush to the airport early morning.

lift is too old and need more maintainance.

i stay thang long opera hotel for 2 nights. i prefer to stay there because the location is not far from the 36 old street. ( i prefer not to stay inside or within the 36 old street area as its too noisy and some places are dirty). when i reached the hotel.i find out many staffs able to speak english and able to provide me some useful travel information ,appreciated that. for my last day in hanoi. i have to leave hanoi in a very early morning and the staff is very helpful , they arrange an early breakfast for us on 6am. therefore i still prefer to stay there agains for my next visit to hanoi.

Fruit plate in room. Fantastic continental breakfast. Many TV channels. Nice staff. Clean.

weak airconditioner. Somewhat overpriced. No wifi. Hard bed

The hotel is pretty nice. The neighborhood is kinda torn apart right now, the roads, that is. But in general the hotel is in very good repair and the food both in the morning for free and at night was nice.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Old quarter is fun.

breakfast wasn't bad. nice big bath tub.

damp room. smelt musty. window didn't open. very overpriced.

The room was damp and smelt musty and smokey. We were led to believe that it had a balcony but there wasn't one and the window hardly opened to air the room. Breakfast wasn't bad but they stopped serving at 9a.m. We have stayed in other hotels similar in price that have been a lot better. Very overpriced and nothing like it looked like in the pictures.

Travel tip : there are many guesthouses offering more comfort at half the price.

Good location and convenient to walk around in Hanoi.

Not all staff can speak English and the food is not very good.

The hotel is in very good location, centre of Hanoi so you can walk around to see the city. But the staff doesn't not speak very good English. The foos, especially breakfast is not very good.

Close to the centre, good breakfast.

Rooms nothing special. Laundry very expensive.

This hotel is close to the centre of Hanoi and walking distance from the Opera, the main post Office and Hoa Kiem lake. It is not a fancy hotel, but the rooms are clean, the breakfast is good and the location is very good. A negative is that you get charged 3% extra for paying anything by credit card. I would recommend this hotel for a short stay, but is lacks spirit for longer stays.

Simple. Suites and superior rooms are spacious. Free internet from rooms. Friendly staff.

Restaurant too small for breakfast. They have almost no lobby.

Convenient for business travel. Especially if you choose the superior and suite rooms. Staff is friendly. Location is close to the Opera Building and some international development agencies. It is also close to the old city.

Simple. Located close to the opera house and the World bank Offices. Close to the Old City.

This hotel has almost no lobby. They have been refurbishing their restaurant floor, and has currently an alternative hall which is rather small and not very comfortable for breakfast.

It's a good option, especially if you choose one of the superior rooms or suites. A good alternative to the nearby Hilton, although much it is much less luxurious.
