Good room, ok hotel and location

We stayed at Cat Huy for 1 day, based on all the recommendations we found online. However when we were looking for the hotel, it was kind of tucked away in a shady and dirty back-alley. The reception desk is unconveniently located on the 1st floor. There is also no elevator for this 8 floor building. Our room was luckily on the bottom floor, but right next to the kitchen where people would have breakfast early int he morning. The room itself was ok, big and clean, but no airco remote to be found so we were too cold. The service of the staff was ok too but nothing spectacular. I stayed at other hotels in the same area which I would recommend over this one.
Shopping Tip:
Walk around the backpackers area for plenty of souvernir stores, restaurants and bars.

Nice inside but NO LIFT and down a small alley

While the location of the hotel itself near the city is good and the rooms are good -
the actual location of the hotel entrance (and hotel rooms) is not good. Down a small walkway/alley which you cannot drive down. While they say they have a market at the door (who wants to buy this when you are holiday and have not got time to organise the hotel to cook anything you buy). So you must walk from road. (OK if not raining or you do not have much baggage).
Most importantly no lift and the stairs are not wide so overall would not stay here again as up and down stairs in HCM City heat is not fun.
breakfast was Ok although not a lot to eat for the set breakfast menu.
The staff were friendly and helpful.

This hotel blew us away, the location is brilliant, our room was huge with a balcony and my husband recons the best pho in Vietnam! The staff are all lovely and attend to any request with a smile. I will definitely stay here again!

Clean hotel in a convenient location

arrived at the hotel in the middle of the night, and honestly it was a bit disconcerting that the hotel was down a dark alley. in the morning however we realized that the alley is actually a vibrant street/market with locals selling all sorts of foods, so as it turns out the location gives you great insight into the city.
our room was next to the reception area but very quiet, clean and spacious. hotel staff were extremely friendly. hotel itself is about a 20 minute walk to the main market (ben thanh), and there are countless restaurants nearby. the included breakfast -- pho with iced coffee -- ended up being the best food we had in our entire trip (which took us through vietnam/china/japan).
for the price, this is a great little hotel and we have no complaints.

Comfortable but no elevator or hot water

Rooms are clean and decent size, but a "superior" room which has window (with no view) is on the 6th floor with no elevators! A windowless standard room on the 2nd floor might be better.
Water is barely lukewarm in the mornings at least.
Breakfast was nothing great, basic.
Service was friendly and helpful.
I thought it was a bit pricey for what you got, but not sure how the other hotels in Saigon are relative to other cities in SE Asia.

Nice hotel, very clean and attentive friendly staff, a little bit far away from the centre, ESP Ben tan market. But the walking distance is acceptable. Quiet. Only bad thing is no hot water in the early morning. We reminded them twice, until 3rd morning there was hot water starting from 7-8 am. If before 7, hard to get hot water.

Room taken but offered us a great alternative

We were late arriving, about 10pm, and surprised to find our room was not ready. Instead, they put us up in an apartment just around the corner. At first I was not happy but then realized this was a great deal. Location is close to everything, markets right outside your door, staff are friendly, breakfast okay.

spacious and lovely hotel

cat huy hotel is located in the main backpacking street, first we felt scary as we hv to walked pass a long dark alley,however, when we arrived,we loved the quiet of the hotel. trust me, you wont love to stay in the hotels of main street as hcmc has a busy and noisy traffic. i have stayed there for 4nights, wonderful and great value.
