Every time an Agoda customer checks out of a hotel we send them an email asking them to write a review of their stay. This is the only way reviews can be submitted. Every review must then be approved by our content team before being posted on the Agoda website. Therefore, unlike many other travel sites, ALL Agoda reviews are certified and genuine.

I've always enjoyed staying at this hotel. The staff are friendly, the rooms are pleasant and well equipped, and it's in a location that's not too far from the centre of the city. The only problem is that the single room is jam packed with tables, a bed and a chair, in a room approximately 2x2 metres. But if you are looking for a comfortable place to stay, this is the one.
Restaurant Tip:
Chicken street vendor, two blocks down the street is delicious.

Excellent front desk service. Warm, friendly yet not obtrusive.

If you are looking for a hotel which is simple yet hospital, Empress Hotel is the one I recommend. The hotel is tucked away from the hussle and bustle of the main street so you are assured of a good night rest without hearing the annoying horns from drivers.
Travel around this district is not more than USD 2. So it pays to just hop on the taxi to get to your destination.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Forget about city tour. Recommend to try the Mekong Delta (2 or 3 days) with homestay from the hotel tour agent.

Not as good as before
ambiance, service, room clenliness, comfort and size
7.3
I previously stayed at the Empress in 2007, and it was really pleasant. This time, however, there were a few things that annoyed me. The television's sound was broken and air conditioning was loud and did not work well. Another issue is the taxi service they use - he drives an old and uncomfortable car that I believe is illegal (he takes the taxi sign out of the boot) and still charges the same as a normal (more comfortable) taxi.
Restaurant Tip:
There are some great local feasts nearby to the hotel. I recommend the chicken stall about 100 metres to the right (when exiting the hotel) for dinner.

Most impressed with Empress Hotel Saigon
Lovely atmosphere and decor; Comfortable bed; Friendly, helpful staff; Good central location, Value for money, with good breakfast included
9.3
The cool, inviting atmosphere was most welcoming after a day of travel. Our rooms were comfortable and clean and the bed was so comfortable. The doormen and reception staff were all more than happy to help us out and provide directions and suggestions for trips and get us taxis at good prices. We went away on an overnight trip and were able to leave our luggage stored there and then on the day we were leaving we were able to have a late check out till 1pm and then stored our luggage till we were ready to head to the airport at 4.30 with several of the staff coming outside to say farwell to us. Would definitely recommend this hotel and will stay there again on our next trip.
Hotel Feature Tip:
Talk to the doormen, they are very friendly and are willing to recommend places to go and are just happy to speak with you to further their English skills.

I booked the Empress because of the need to use up points available through an online booking agent and my normal hotel, Spring hotel in Le Thanh Ton, was not available for points use. I wish I had foregone the points and stuck with the Spring! I requested a non-smoking room but ended up stuck in one that reeked of cigarette smoke. The "superior" room was miniscule - just enough room to lay your luggage on the floor and still walk around the bed. Breakfast was buffet only and just adequate. Location is neither in the central area of district one nor the backpacker area (with its cheap restaurants, bars, shops, etc) so it's either a long walk, a taxi or a "xe om" ride to get anywhere. Staff were friendly but service was average. The hotel itself is looking tired. Better value is available.
Shopping Tip:
For reasonably priced shopping don't overlook the shops and stalls in Lucky Plaza which runs from Dong Khoi to Nguyen Hue in the central area of district 1.

Good value, friendly service
Good value, friendly service, good breakfast

We stayed one night at the Empress hotel and our stay was good, but not great. We checked in and were upgraded to a suite on the top floor. This was a nice upgrade except it was on a smoking floor and the people next door were smoking up a chimney and it was seeping into our room. The accommodations were fine, bed comfortable, and they provided a safe, but other than that the room was merely average. We enjoyed the breakfast in the morning, which included eggs and bacon. Overall this was a good value for the money, but we found the location a bit far from the city center.

exceptional digs
very pleasant athmosphere and staff, everyone helpful throughout. Romm was small, clean with all necessary ammenities and suited my needs perfectly.

The Empress is an exceptional hotel with kind, knowledgeable and respectful staff who go to lenghts to be helpful but all this happens naturally indicating good management and training. The athmosphere is tranquil. I was pleasantly surprised at the rate and equally surprised at the excellent service and ammenities. Thank you.

Typical, non-descript 3 star
Friendly staff (HCMC is a friendly city), OK sized rooms
6.3
If you get a good price and just want a basic room, this will do fine. Any amenties wanted and you should look elsewhere. Off-the-beaten path but a 10-15 min cab ride to where u want to go, so again, for the price, can be fine.
