charming colonial style hotel in a great locatio

we only stayed one night there but this hotel is very well located, near the opera of saigon. central and very close to the main shopping streets. staff was welcoming us warmly and were very friendly, some rooms were smelling smoke but we had no problem changing them. the rooms are quite spacious but old fashioned and outdated, some refurbishment and update would make this hotel close to perfection. the main plus was the buffet breakfast located in a spacious outdoor spacious where we felt the colonial charm of this hotel.

Fantastic central location with excellent facilities, good staff, wonderfully atmospheric rooms and great food. Our room was spacious - you could comfortably stay in the junior suite for an extended period of time. Highly recommneded for comfort and value for money.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
This hotel is close to a lot of the top attractions in Ho Chi Monh city, as well as within easy walking distance of excellent restaurants and shops.

A beautiful graceful old hotel

Friendly, helpful staff who were always courteous and professional. The breakfast is ver generous and beautifully located in the garden restaurant. The Continental is a beautifully maintained classic hotel with an authentic Old World charm. It is very well located within walking distance to many of HCMC's attractions & restaurants.

Overall, not a bad place to be in for meetings,etc as it was in the centre of most places. For food, very accessible as Parkson was just around the corner. only thing was the room was too big, and the air con was not able to cool it accordingly.

The external of the hotel looks very grand and new but the interior is furhished with old style china type furnitures. The place is very convenient to access to all the touirst attractions. the only thing that we cannot withstand is the noise in the bedroom. As we are staying on the 1st floor, the noise from the traffic was up to the late night and started early in the morning like 5.30am.We also can hear the hotel staff cleaning and walking along the corrider outside the bedroom. The hot water supply while bathing is inconsistent. The water can suddenly turn very old in the middle of your bath. The breakfast menu is almost the same during my 2 days there and my children didn't like the food.
Shopping Tip:
If you would like a better style and quality items like bags / handicraft, it is better to buy on the shops along the street nearby the hotel than to boy at Bann Thah Market where you need to bargain very hard.

The Continental looks great from the outside but don't be deceived. The rooms and facilities are in dire need of refurbishment.
Apart from the great location which is enjoyed by other more modern hotels close by The Continental Saigon has nothing to recommend it. The lobby sets the tone and is dingy and ordinary compared with most other places.
Our room was airy and spacious but that was all. It was poorly appointed eg. all coffee/tea making facilities were dumped on a low table by some armchairs and because of the lack of power points you had to boil the kettle on the floor in a corner.
The worst item was the bathroom/toilet. The extremely poor lighting, lack of space, shocking tiles and less than ordinary facilities made it seem like stepping back into a remote, third-world facility where residents have no choice because it is the only establishment in town.
Having visited HCMC before we were always attracted by the appearance of The Continental Saigon. But it was the biggest disappointment of our holiday. I certainly would not recommend it to anyone especially with the more modern hotels.
